SPIDER-MAN star Tom Holland says the upcoming fourth installment BRAND NEW DAY feels like “a rebirth” for the franchise.
“[It] really feels like we aren’t making the fourth movie,” Holland told Complex Pop. “We’re making the first movie in the chapter… This is a rebirth. This is something completely new.”
The actor also spoke to LADbible about the movie, sharing, “I think with anything, it’s all about what’s in front of you, and right now what’s in front of us is SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY, and focusing on making that movie worthy of the last film.:”

“I have been actively sifting through the internet and trying to best understand what it is that the fans want from a SPIDER-MAN movie, and that’s been my driving force in these pitch meetings,” Holland continued. “I think the producers, at times were like, absolutely sick of me, but I think it’s really important, because we make these movies for [the fans].”
However, Holland was tight-lipped when it came to discussing his future in the Marvel universe, saying, “In terms of my future in the character beyond this film, I don’t know the answer to that.”
It seems like the actor isn’t focused on work, however. Holland told Complex Pop that in 2027, he wants “to spend time with my friends and family.”
“I love taking these kind of little breaks for me to travel or to work on life stuff and sort my accounts out,” he continued. “I want to make sure I can just be a well-rounded human being rather than just being a work machine that’s just constantly on set.”
Holland has also been open about his decision to get sober, which was spurred on by a “Dry January” challenge he underwent in 2022.
“I couldn’t quite wrap my head around how much I was struggling without booze in that first month — and It really scared me,” he said on an episode of the RICH ROLL podcast. “I decided, as a sort of punishment to myself, that I would do February as well as January.”
However, Holland said that the second month “was no easier,” adding, “If anything, it got a little bit harder.”
He kept setting benchmarks for himself, hitting the six-month mark, then the one- year benchmark. By that time, Holland realized the benefits of a sober lifestyle.
“I started sleeping better,” he explained. “I was handling stressful situations better. My relationship [with fiancée Zendaya] was better. My relationship with my family was better. My relationship with my work was better….this is the best version of myself.”
While Holland is hyper-focused on making sure SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY is what fans want, the actor is also taking time to prioritize his relationships and health.
