Tom Holland Committed to Sobriety After Struggle with Alcohol ‘Scared’ Him

Tom Holland decided to quit drinking altogether after noticing how much he struggled without alcohol, and he couldn’t be more grateful for that decision.
In 2022, the SPIDER-MAN actor participated in “Dry January,” attempting to go all month without alcohol. However, when he struggled to do that, he realized he was more dependent on the substance than he thought.
“I couldn’t quite wrap my head around how much I was struggling without booze in that first month — and it really scared me,” he said. “I decided, as a sort of punishment to myself, that I would do February as well as January.”
The second month was even harder than the first, and an “upsetting conversation” he had with his doctor about his liver pushed him to go for a third month.
“I got through March and started to feel a little bit better but was still really struggling. So, I said to myself, ‘If I can make it to June 1st, which is my birthday, and I can do six months without booze, I will have then proved to myself that I don’t have a problem. I’m just young and enjoying a drink,” Holland explained.
However, as the actor began to feel the positive effects of not drinking, he decided to stick with sobriety.

“I started sleeping better. I was handling stressful situations better. My relationship [with Zendaya] was better. My relationship with my family was better. My relationship with my work was better,” he said.
When he reached the year mark, he decided he would never drink alcohol again.
“By the time I’d crossed that annual mark I was done. I was like, ‘I’m never gonna drink again because this is the best version of myself.’”
Holland isn’t wrong in his assessment. In fact, avoiding alcohol comes with many positive benefits. UT Southwestern reported, “Several studies have shown that reducing or eliminating alcohol long term can significantly decrease the risk of cancer, as well as heart and liver problems. But even a short break can make a positive impact on your health by lowering blood pressure, reducing stress, improving sleep and, in some cases, losing weight.”
Holland wants others to experience the benefits of sobriety, so he launched Bero, a non-alcoholic beer company.
“BERO was born out of a personal journey and I couldn’t be prouder to be launching it today,” he said last month.
He’s also gearing up to start filming SPIDER-MAN 4.
