Kylie Kelce, wife of former Philadelphia Eagles star Jason Kelce, shared how she and her husband plan to keep their kids safe from cellphones: the “kitchen phone.”

“I actually believe that we will be doing what I’m calling the ‘kitchen phone.’ In other words, there will be one or two extra cellphones, besides mom and dad’s cellphones, that they will take with them if they have somewhere they’re going where there will not be a parent, or if they will need to get a hold of us, or if they’re at something sports related,” Kylie said on her podcast “Not Gonna Lie.”

“You can still have your friends have that phone number,” she explained further. “You can still use the phone on the first floor of the house, but they live in the kitchen, so they’re not going upstairs. They’re not going in the basement. They’re going nowhere but the first floor.”

The couple are parents to four daughters: Wyatt Elizabeth, Elliotte Ray, Bennett Llewellyn and Finnley “Finn” Anne.

This decision to limit cellphone usage has become common with many celebrity families as famous parents seek to protect their children from the difficulties of public scrutiny for as long as possible. Though the couple remains busy, their children are their number one priority no matter what else they have going on.

“[My kids knowing they are my number one priority is] the only thing I really care about. We’re very fortunate to be playing in the NFL and living the life that we are as a family. And I don’t know what my kids are going to take away from that,” Jason said in 2023. “But the number one thing, the basic thing that I think they take away from it is that we love them and they are the most important thing in the world to us, regardless of football.”

“Jason is emotionally and mentally present for his girls, and I think that’s so important,” Kylie later told PEOPLE.

As Jason and Kylie work to remain present for their kids, their cellphone rule will help their daughters focus on real life instead of the distractions brought on by tech.

The days when that comes, however, are still far off as their oldest is only 4 years old. Nonetheless, it is encouraging to see them plan ahead and have a system already in place so they know exactly what they are going to do when they finally allow their kids access to cellphones.
