Six years after going off air, THE AMAZING WORLD OF GUMBALL is back with a new season — and a new name — though it promises to deliver the same laughs and goofy premises of the original.
“The laws of reality are a joke, and family life is anything but ordinary. Whether he’s battling an evil fast-food empire, facing off against a sentient AI in love with his mom or trying to stop Banana Joe from wearing pants — Gumball Watterson drags his brother Darwin, sister Anais, and the rest of the town of Elmore along for the ride,” a synopsis of the show reads. “With even wilder stories, bigger twists and surreal humor, the show is so amazing they had to rename it!”
Much like the original show, the reboot, titled THE WONDERFULLY WEIRD WORLD OF GUMBALL, offers a truly bizarre premise for every episode. However, at the heart of the show lies family, friendship and a surprisingly deep storyline that teaches viewers important lessons.
“I think it brings a comedic approach to hard topics,” explained Alkaio Thiele, who voices Gumball on the new season. “And then [parents] can refer back to the episode when [they are] trying to explain a difficult concept.”
Updated for the ways the world has changed since Gumball was last on air, the new season will broach topics that include AI, the dangers of social media and the difficulty of healthy eating. The showrunners worked to make the show as relatable as possible to lighten the day of any young viewer who happens upon the show.
“[If] there is one sad little kid who’s sitting on his couch, and he’s having a terrible day, and he’s hoping to find some distraction, and he comes across our show. What we’re trying to do is just make that little kid feel good,” Thiele explained. “If somebody is having a hard time finding somebody to relate to, we can be that for them.”

“We thought it was about time that Gumball and the rest of the gang woke up from their catnap, to do what they do best, and delight more fans with distinctive humour, visual inventiveness and wild adventures,” added Warner Bros. Discovery executive Vanessa Brookman. “Guided by the immense talents of Ben, Matt, Erik and team, the new series continues Gumball’s legacy as one of the most iconic, groundbreaking and beloved Cartoon Network shows of all time.”
The show is now airing on Cartoon Network and is available to stream on Hulu and HBO Max.
