GUMBALL is coming back with Season 7 after a six-year break.

The new season, titled “The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball,” will come out on Cartoon Network and Hulu later this year, Kidscreen reported on May 20.

The original series ran from 2011 to 2019. It had two miniseries, in 2019 and 2020, and a GUMBALL Roblox game came out in 2024. The series earned an Emmy Award and nine BAFTAs. The show’s creator, Ben Bocquelet, will executive produce the new season.

The new season will feature the return of the Watterson family: Gumball, voiced by Alkaio Thiele; Darwin, voiced by Hero Hunter; Anais, voiced by Kinza Syed Khan; and parents Nicole, voiced by Teresa Gallagher, and Richard, voiced by Dan Russell. Gallagher and Russell are the only returning cast, USA Today reported this week.

The series gives a nod to the long wait in the trailer: “Oh, dude, we’re late for school!” a crusty-looking Darwin says to an equally dusty Gumball. Gumball asks, “How late?” Darwin replies, “About seven years!”

The season’s synopsis reads, “The laws of reality are a joke, and family life is anything but ordinary. Whether he’s battling an evil fast-food empire, facing off against a sentient AI in love with his mom or trying to stop Banana Joe from wearing pants — Gumball Watterson drags his brother Darwin, sister Anais, and the rest of the town of Elmore along for the ride. With even wilder stories, bigger twists and surreal humor, the show is so amazing that they had to rename it!”

Matt Layzell and Erik Fountain will serve as executive producers and series directors. Xav Clarke serves as composer and Joe Sparrow serves as the series’ art director.

Bocquelet, Layzell and Fountain said, “What an amazing opportunity to play with these characters again. Fans can look forward to plenty more antics and misadventures in Elmore because Gumball and Darwin haven’t grown up much since we last saw them… we haven’t either.”

Vanessa Brookman, Warner Bros. Discovery GM, International Kids, Animation and Franchise, said, “We thought it was about time that Gumball and the rest of the gang woke up from their catnap, to do what they do best, and delight more fans with distinctive humour, visual inventiveness and wild adventures. Guided by the immense talents of Ben, Matt, Erik and team, the new series continues Gumball’s legacy as one of the most iconic, groundbreaking and beloved Cartoon Network shows of all time.”

Season 7 will certainly be worth the wait.
