NFL Hall of Fame coach and former NBC sportscaster Tony Dungy holds tightly to his pro-life stances, even when he gets pushback.

“So many people were writing into NBC, ‘How can you have this guy on TV?’ The NBC executives were very concerned,” Dungy shared on “The Just Life” podcast with Benjamin Watson. The two were discussing Dungy’s speech at the 2023 March for Life.

But for him, taking part in the event was immensely important.

“We have adopted eight babies, and one of the high points of that march was when one of my daughters was with us,” Dungy continued. “She’s adopted, and she was there hearing these talks about how life is precious, and thank you to the moms who made that decision not to have abortions. And she’s thinking about that and saying, ‘I could have been one of those choices, and I could not be here today.’ And she was so moved by it.”

“Well, and then to get people telling me, ‘Oh, you shouldn’t have done this,’ or ‘How can you try to impose your will on other people?’ And I just thought, I’m sorry. I have to go by the Bible. I have to go by God’s word, and that’s the measuring stick for me,” he emphasized.

Dungy experienced a big life change last month when NBC released him from his FOOTBALL NIGHT IN AMERICA broadcasting role.

I have been informed by NBC that I won’t be back with FNIA this fall, and it has given me time to reflect and also to look ahead,” he began a March 12 X post. “It’s disappointing news, but I want to thank my NBC family for making the last 17 years so special.  I’ll have lasting memories of my time there, especially with Rodney Harrison, who has become a tremendous friend.”

“God has always directed me in these moments and while I’m not sure what the next step will be for me — whether it will be in football, in broadcasting, or getting more involved in church and community outreach — I know God has plans for my life and I can’t wait to see them unfold,” Dungy continued. “And I am reminded of one of my favorite verses in the Bible, Romans 8:28, ‘God works all things for His good for those who love the Lord.'”

No matter what comes next for Dungy, his faith will clearly remain his foundation.
