NFL Hall of Fame coach Tony Dungy was disappointed to learn that he will no longer be part of NBC’s NFL pre-game show, FOOTBALL NIGHT IN AMERICA.
“I have been informed by NBC that I won’t be back with FNIA this fall, and it has given me time to reflect and also to look ahead,” Dungy wrote on X.
“It’s disappointing news, but I want to thank my NBC family for making the last 17 years so special,” he continued. “I’ll have lasting memories of my time there, especially with Rodney Harrison, who has become a tremendous friend.”
Dungy believes that God has a plan for him.
“God has always directed me in these moments and while I’m not sure what the next step will be for me — whether it will be in football, in broadcasting, or getting more involved in church and community outreach — I know God has plans for my life and I can’t wait to see them unfold,” Dungy expressed.

The Super Bowl champion ended the post with one of his favorite Bible verses, Romans 8:28, which declares, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Many people commented on Dungy’s post to express the impact he made on them.
“Tony, I worked as a PA at NBC Sports for a couple seasons on Football Night in America. You probably don’t remember me, but I’ll always remember how kind and generous you were to everyone on the crew. As a die hard Patriots fan, I thought I was supposed to dislike you, but that was impossible. Wishing you the best in whatever comes next,” Nigel Carreiro, a content producer, wrote.
“Their loss. God bless you, Coach,” social media sport analyst Jon Root commented. “Looking forward to see what you do next.”
Dungy joined the Network in 2009, “shortly after leaving his role as Indianapolis Colts head coach and retiring from professional sports,” Deadline reported.
In addition to coaching the Colts, Dungy played three seasons in the NFL as a safety — two with the Pittsburgh Steelers and one with the San Francisco 49ers. He began his coaching career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he would coach for six seasons before moving to the Colts for the next seven years, where he won a Super Bowl.
Dungy might not know what’s next, but he believes that God has a perfect plan and will put him in a place to share the Gospel.
