The studio behind THE CHOSEN will bring DAVID, a new animated movie telling the story of the fight between David and Goliath, to audiences around the world.
“I didn’t expect to love this movie as much as I did, and when my wife read the script and had no notes, I knew we were onto something,” Dallas Jenkins, Chairman and Chief Creative Officer of 5&2 Studios, said in a press release. “We’ve found a great biblical storyteller in Phil [Cunningham, the movie’s co-director], and I’m confident this is the first of multiple projects we’ll do together.”
Partnering with Slingshot Productions, 5&2 Studios will handle global distribution and licensing agreements for the movie, as well as marketing efforts.
“After defeating Goliath, David faces his greatest battle yet — not on the battlefield, but in the heart of a nation,” a synopsis of the movie explained. “In this animated musical adventure, David’s journey from underdog to king is filled with courage, faith, and hope — crafted to inspire audiences of all ages on the big screen.”
Christian artist and Grammy-winner Phil Wickham voices David in the project.
“David’s faith in God’s love propelled him into a life of adventure and helped him conquer fear. Although far from perfect, he lived wholeheartedly and we hope that audiences will be inspired as they watch,” Cunningham said of the movie.
He continued, “Our goal was to create a film that stood the test of time and had scale and attention to detail in equal parts. This goes down to incredible people working in unity towards a vision and it has been the privilege of a lifetime to be part of this and work with such courageous, faithful, determined, talented and kind people.”

5&2 Studios recently inked a major deal with Amazon MGM Studios, giving the streamer exclusive streaming rights to the first five seasons of THE CHOSEN, as well as THE CHOSEN IN THE WILD WITH BEAR GRYLLS.
“THE CHOSEN has had renowned success captivating audiences across generations, and we are looking forward to collaborating with Dallas and 5&2 Studios on a larger scale,” Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios, said in a statement. “As we look ahead, we see massive opportunities to develop additional faith-inspired content for our global Prime Video customers.”
The studio and streamer are currently working together on JOSEPH OF EGYPT, a new series based on the Biblical figure. Jenkins is attached to executive produce, while Craig Wright will write and executive produce.
“This is a story that can be told in eight episodes,” Jenkins told Variety of the series. “We have writers that love THE CHOSEN and want to have their own stamp on it, but also defer to the larger CHOSEN story that we’re telling. All filmmakers and storytellers that we bring into our fold are going to be people who love the mothership show and have no interest in rewriting the way that we do things.”
