SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS actor Simu Liu gushed about AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY in a recent interview with ScreenRant.

When asked to describe DOOMSDAY in three words, he said, “Dream come true.”

“I mean, there are just so many actors in it, and getting to work with those people as peers is really incredible because I grew up watching so many of them,” he explained.

“It feels, in a lot of ways, like a love letter to the entire genre of superhero movies,” he added. “And I think there’s something really fun about that.”

He explained that DOOMSDAY is “for all the misfits and the weirdos and the underdogs that grew up reading comic books and feeling like there was hope for them somehow – that it didn’t matter if they didn’t fit in – I think there’s just always a special place in my heart for that entire genre.”

He celebrated his part in the movie in March, posting a video of a chair that featured his name on Instagram.

In an entertainment landscape that seems to be moving away from superhero movies, Liu believes DOOMSDAY will serve a role in reviving the genre back.

“I know the world has gotten pretty cynical on those lately, but I think it’s really important to know where superheroes started and where these comic books started,” he told Collider in an interview. “They were such an inspiration for the outcasts and the weirdos and the nerds. They were so successful because they really spoke to this idea that no matter who you are, no matter where you came from, you could find heroism within you, and I think that’s what really made the comic books resonate with me when I was younger, and, for better or for worse, I think it’s why I still love the movies.”

DOOMSDAY boasts a stacked cast, including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Pedro Pascal, Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, among many other Marvel legends.

For Liu, stepping onto set was a crazy experience.

“I have to be careful not to give too much away. I think it’s fair to say that we had a couple of days where base camp was full, and you’re seeing, like, 20, 30 people on set at the same time,” he shared. “It’s really overwhelming. I mean, talk about imposter syndrome, as well, for me. It was definitely a lot to take in, but then people start talking, and you start working.”

“Inevitably, you have these moments of downtime in between takes, and I feel like that’s when real connections sometimes happen,” he added.  “Sometimes not, but sometimes it’s just a conversation or something that leads to something. Then, before you know it, it’s like you’re friends, and that, I feel like, easily is the most meaningful part of the process for me.”

AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY will hit theaters Dec. 18, 2026.
