While the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man franchise works on its fourth movie, the original Tobey Maguire lead series might receive a surprise movie as writer Mattson Tomlin teases another entry in the series.
“Slow and steady wins the race. There won’t be anything to say about that for a long time (if ever!) because it involves a lot of people and politics and things going right that have nothing to do with me, but I haven’t gotten a ‘no’ yet!” Tomlin said when asked about a possible fourth movie in the Maguire-led series.
While the last time Maguire was the lead in a Spider-Man movie was in 2007, fans got to see him as the character again in 2021’s NO WAY HOME when Holland’s character teamed up with the Maguire and Andrew Garfield iterations of Spider-Man to save the world.

Seeing the old actors back as the character caused many fans to clamour for new movies for them to star in, and Tomlin has been hard at work to make that happen. In July he shared his idea for the plot, centered around a Spider-Man who is grappling with being a hero and a father.
“Honestly right now my main interest in this respect would be to write a Spider-Man 4 where Tobey’s Spider-Man is juggling being a husband and a father,” Tomlin shared. “Spider-Man as a father is where I gravitate towards given the last 8 films.”
While there are many factors that would play into whether this movie was ever made, Maguire does not seem to be one of them, as he was thrilled to reprise the role for NO WAY HOME and seems very likely to return as Spider-Man if he is ever given the chance again.
“When they called initially, I was like finally!” Maguire said of his return in NO WAY HOME. “I got the call and was immediately open about coming to do this. Not without nerves – you know, ‘What will this look like and what will the experience be?’ But to get to show up with beautiful, talented, creative people and play together? It’s just like, ‘Yes!” It’s fun and exciting.’”
“I love these films and I love all of the different series,” Maguire continued. “If these guys called me and said, ‘Would you show up tonight to hang out and goof around?’ or ‘Would you show up to do this movie or read a scene or do a Spider-Man thing?’ it would be a ‘yes!’ Because why wouldn’t I want to do that?”
This fourth movie is still very much a dream at the moment, but it is interesting to think about where the hero could be taken and how Maguire’s iteration of Spider-Man could be revived 20 years later.
