Could SPIDER-MAN fans actually get a fourth installment in Sam Raimi-directed web-slinger franchise?

Raimi planned to create a SPIDER-MAN 4 in the early 2010s; however the project fell though due to “creative difference” with Sony.

But last week, rumors about SPIDER-MAN 4 swirled after Mattson Tomlin, co-writer for THE BATMAN PART II, reveled that he wants in on the Marvel franchise.

“It appears that the writer is actually hard at work attempting to make what would be a dream come true for many fans of Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire finally happen more than 15 years after SPIDER-MAN 4 was cancelled,” CBR reported.

@mattsontomlin Here’s your money to write the script,” a fan page wrote on X. Tomlin replied, “Trying!”

He also confirmed that he’s tried to get in touch with Raimi, who previously signaled he’d be interested with Sony’s green light.

Tomlin even has a possible story in mind.

“In July 2025, he also shared on the social media platform his vision for a fourth film that would see Maguire’s Peter Parker struggling to balance raising a family with fighting crime,” CBR said.

Maguire did return to the character in 2021 for the Tom Holland-led SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME, which saw his Peter Parker team up with Holland’s and Andrew Garfield’s in an epic, multiverse adventure.

Whether or not a SPIDER-MAN 4 actually happens, though, remains to be seen. But in the meantime, fans are anxiously awaiting Holland’s SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY, the fourth installment in his franchise.

Peter Parker tries to focus on college and leave Spider-Man behind. But when a new threat endangers his friends, he must break his promise and suit up again, teaming with an unexpected ally to protect those he loves,” a synopsis for BRAND NEW DAY reads

Holland couldn’t be happier to be back in the suit.

“It’s day one. My fourth-ever day one on SPIDER-MAN. It’s funny — putting the suit on — it feels different this time, somehow,” Holland said in a video posted from set in August. “It’s also the first time we ever had fans on set for day one, so it’s really exciting to share this with them. We’ve got some familiar faces on set. I’m just going to do my best, hopefully get it right, no pressure.”

Along with Holland, the movie sees his fiancée Zendaya return as MJ and costar Jacob Batalon return as Ned. Jon Bernthal joins as Frank Castle/The Punisher, and Mark Ruffalo will reprise his longtime MCU role as Bruce Banner/The Hulk. Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas and Marvin Jones III also joined the cast.

It will release July 31, 2026.
