Shawn Johnson and Andrew East weighed in on what it’s like to share their faith publicly.

“Have you ever faced backlash from sharing your faith?” a fan asked the couple in a recent YouTube Q&A video.

Andrew answered, “I feel like we’re spoiled…our corner of the internet’s been so kind. Also, we’ve been doing this for so long. I feel like people really kind of know how we operate and have seen so much of our journey.”

“We don’t have an agenda here…we have just gotten to share what’s going on in our life and how we’re dealing with it, and part of that is faith for us,” he continued. “It’s not like we’re out here trying to convert everybody…It’s just like, ‘Hey, this is how we’re doing this.’”

Shawn added, “And even when you get backlash which, everyone’s going to get backlash at some point, you just kind of have to go ask yourself, ‘What is it I believe in? Why do I believe in it?’”

“And you know what? Nobody can please everybody,” Andrew said. “Not even Jesus could, and that guy was as good as they come.”

The couple often speak about their faith and how it impacts their marriage and parenting their three children, Drew, 6, Jett, 4, and Barrett, 2.

“We fell into this world of social media and YouTube and kind of have done everything you could imagine,” Shawn told Woman’s World. “I asked, ‘We’ve been given this platform for God knows what reason. I don’t know why people follow us, but it’s amazing and it is a blessing. What can we do with it?’”

She continued, “We ended up showing our life in a humorous, uplifting, wholesome way. There’s no profanity. It’s not polarizing. It’s just kind of the middle of the road, dumb humor, but relatable.”

“We always say, at the end of the day if my kids or your kids or someone on the internet happens to watch our YouTube videos or our dumb Instagrams over something that is controversial or crude or profane, then we’ve done our job,” Shawn continued. “It’s just trying to make families a little bit better, bring family back to the forefront.”

While on the “Off The Vine” podcast, Shawn spoke about finding a new purpose after retiring from her career as a professional gymnast.

“After gymnastics, I went on this journey of trying to strengthen my faith and strengthen where my purpose in life was laid,” she said. “I found my purpose of serving a greater purpose, and now I feel like my purpose is probably being a mom.”

The Easts are committed to sharing their faith, showing fans how it influences their day-to-day lives.
