The Fox Sports app will be shut down on smart TVs beginning in May.

An announcement was sent to Fox Sports app users on April 7, which “told customers the change will take effect in about 30 days, though mobile and web access to the Fox Sports app will remain available for now,” Cord Cutters News announced.

Fox One released on August 21, 2025, for $19.99 per month or $199.99 annually. As the company’s direct-to-consumer streaming platform, it offers subscribers access to all of Fox’s news, entertainment and sports content.

This includes “FOX News Channel, FOX Business, FOX Weather, FOX Sports, FS1, FS2, FOX Deportes, B1G, FOX Local Stations and the FOX Network. FOX Nation and B1G+ will also be available in the FOX One platform,” Fox Corporation reported in August.

“We’re eager to launch FOX One in just a few weeks and super serve our viewers with the best in live news, sports and entertainment content all in one place,” said Pete Distad, CEO, Direct to Consumer, Fox Corporation, last year. “In bringing together the full power of the FOX content portfolio in one service, we have created a great value proposition and user experience that will appeal to the cord-cutter and cord-never fans currently not served by conventional pay TV packages.”

According to Awful Announcing, Fox One gives former Fox Sports subscribers some exciting updates including “access to multiview and the ability to record sports events. Neither of those features is available in the Fox Sports app.”

Fox Sports customers will have to re-login to the Fox One app, but thankfully, “Fox One allows authentication from all of the same pay-TV distributors as the Fox Sports app did, so anyone who gets Fox channels as part of their pay-TV plan can log in and use the Fox One app at no extra charge,” The Streamable said.

Users will have to get used to a different interface.

The move allows Fox to push the Fox One brand harder, Awful Announcing said. The Fox Sports mobile and desktop users won’t be affect by the rollover right now, but the outlet said that they may eventually get folded into Fox One as well.

While the transition from Fox Sports to Fox One may cause short-term frustration for users as they adjust to a new interface and reauthenticate their accounts, the added features and streamlined access could offer long-term benefits. As Fox continues to centralize its content, this move reflects the growing trend of making apps simpler for users — even if it comes with some initial growing pains.
