The final family dinner of BLUE BLOODS was a very significant scene, so why wasn’t Marisa Ramirez’s character, Baez, there?

Baez is Danny Reagan’s partner and romantic interest.

“Honestly, it didn’t really come to the forefront. Because at the end of their last scene together, there was a hint of a whiff of a promise that they were going to leave that squad and go off to dinner and end up at one or the other’s house, yes,” showrunner Kevin Wade said. “But it felt like a big leap, with only two minutes left, after 14 years, to introduce them like that at the dinner.”

Danny’s siblings have revealed their relationships at family dinners, but the show’s writers didn’t think that needed to be done in the finale.

“We’ve done it in Season 8 with Jamie and Eddie, and it felt like we had plenty of tarmac to get there. This would have been a little too quick, I think. To me, it was just too fast,” Wade noted.

Donnie Whalberg, who plays Danny, had pushed for his and Baez’s romance to have some kind of confirmation.

“I was like, ‘Listen, you’ve got to do something. They don’t need to go get married, but something would be nice, just to show that there may be a future for them, or that their relationship has really evolved,'” he explained to Variety.

In BOSTON BLUE’s Season 1 finale, Baez and Danny get back together after a brief split. Hopefully, Baez will also make some appearances in Season 2.

The show’s co-creator, Brandon Sonnier, told TV Insider, “We follow the thread that Danny starts at the end of the season by saying they’ve taken it too slow for too long and then inviting her to move in. So yes, she will come to Boston. But we do have to work through the realities of she has a whole life in New York that she sort of needs to unwind from.”

“She has a mom who’s in a professional care facility. She has a daughter,” he continued. “And so all of those things need to be dealt with and sort of figured out and sorted before she can fully commit to living in Boston with Danny.”

BOSTON BLUE Season 2 will premiere on CBS as part of its 2026-2027 lineup.

Movieguide®’s review of Season 1 Episode 13 reads, “Episode 13 of BOSTON BLUE provides plenty of thrills, action, mystery, and drama…The episode showcases a strong Christian, moral viewpoint. Characters commit to bringing criminals to justice and doing what’s right.”

Hopefully the next season clears up any confusion about Danny and Baez’s relationship.
