Walt Disney World officially launched its newest ride, a rollercoaster that takes riders on a trip to bring together the Muppets as they embark on their rock and roll band’s upcoming show.

“Step inside G-Force Records for a VIP tour of the Muppets’ music studio, where The Electric Mayhem is jamming out…and running very late for their own concert across town. Scooter (their band manager), Kermit, Miss Piggy and the rest of the Muppets must hatch a plan to get everyone – including you – to the show,” a description of the ride, called the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster, reads.

The ride features scenes that incorporate Muppet Easter eggs, such as one of Miss Piggy’s original dresses, and covers of famous rock songs with a Muppets twist and celebrity cameos. One of the most touching moments comes at the end of the ride as Jim Henson receives a tribute through a Muppets portrait.

“My favorite and maybe the most important Easter egg here at Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets is this portrait right up here. It is a tribute to Jim Henson, who passed away a year before Muppet Vision 3D opened,” Dani, a creative director at Muppets Studios, said in a walkthrough of the ride. “The portrait originally hung as a tribute to him up in the rafter of the pre-show. It wouldn’t be Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets if we didn’t continue that tradition and honor Jim’s legacy.”

The launch of the ride comes as Disney works to potentially revive the Muppets series alongside other projects already in the works.

For example, it already released a new episode of the show to celebrate its 50th anniversary. While the episode did not go completely off the rails, it continued down the path of other Disney franchises where it lost the strong morals that made it popular in the first place. A portion of Movieguide®’s review of the MUPPETS SHOW, which released this year, reads:

THE MUPPET SHOW reboot is funny and nostalgic, with sweet messages. It has a light moral worldview stressing friendship, kindness, teamwork, and cooperation. However, there are some concerning elements. The reboot special has various references to drinking and dating relationships, including mentions of having an affair. There are also some comical slapstick violence and light foul language. In addition, the special contains references to false spiritual practices, such as mentions of one’s ‘aura’ and ‘chakra’ energy. Also, at the end, although unseen, THE MUPPET SHOW has a reference to a male Muppet wearing a tutu. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children.

Hopefully the franchise will continue to hold on to the strong morals that allowed it play such a big part in millions of children’s lives. Meanwhile, families can enjoy THE MUPPETS in a brand new way through the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster which is now open at Walt Disney World.
