Actor and NASCAR driver Frankie Muniz recently reflected on the “ups and downs” of the past year.

“What a year so far,” he captioned an Instagram post. “So many ups and downs, happy and sad times, crazy fun days and super stressful ones too…I guess I’m truly living, experiencing it all.”

Over the past year, Muniz has dealt with a number of situations, both good and bad. Last summer, he suffered a fall in his home that injured his wrist, leading to a seven-week break from racing.

Muniz began racing in 2004, starting his professional career two years later. He became a full-time NASCAR driver last year.

“If I’m being 100% honest, I really thought that last year was gonna be my final year racing,” Muniz told PEOPLE. “Just because of the amount of time and focus and everything that goes into being a driver at the top level. So when I did my last race in Phoenix a month ago, I had this thought like, ‘Well, this could be the last race I ever do as a NASCAR driver.’”

He continued, “And it was really in that moment that I was like, ‘No way. I’m not done with this. The story is not done. I haven’t accomplished the goals that I want to accomplish in it.’ There’s still a lot of unfinished business.”

On the brighter side, Muniz recently appeared in a reboot of MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE, the hit sitcom that made him a star.

“It felt like home,” the actor said of returning to set with his old castmate. “I was really proud of what we made. I haven’t said that many times when I leave a set. Normally I’m kind of like, ‘I probably could have done that better. I could have tried this. I could have done that.’ But every day I left the set on this revival I was really proud of what we were making.”

Muniz rose to fame as a child, starring in MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE, as well as children’s movies like BIG FAT LIAR and AGENT CODY BANKS. However, in 2008, he decided to leave his acting career behind and move to Arizona.

“Honestly, I did not like LA,” he told Us Weekly in 2025. “So I moved to Arizona, and I love it. I feel like it saved my life in the sense that I started enjoying the little aspects of life more, like hiking [and] going to the grocery store, because it was easy.”

From the highs to the lows, it looks like Muniz is happy to celebrate everything life has to offer!
