For Zendaya, working on SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY with possible-husband Tom Holland was a “family affair.”
“SPIDER-MAN was a dream,” she told Elle of working on the movie. “I get to go to work every day with my best friend, the person that I love. We bring our dogs to work; it’s like a family affair. We grew up on those movies! It’s like coming home.”
The couple, who have been dating since 2021, also worked together on Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY.
“I could have cried, I was so proud,” Zendaya said of watching Holland work.
Matt Damon, one of their ODYSSEY co-stars, shared, “I absolutely adore [Zendaya] and Tom together. And they deserve each other — they’re the two loveliest people.”
“Look, you forget, [Zendaya] and Tom are very young actors and very accomplished for how young they are, but they’re still in their 20s,” he continued.
While Zendaya and Holland are both major Hollywood stars, the couple keep a low profile, even going so far as to not confirm or deny the rumors that they tied the knot earlier this year.
“I just feel like for me there is a level of a parasocial investment in my personal relationship, which I understand,” Zendaya told the New York Times’ “Modern Love” podcast. “I’m aware that I’m a public person and so is he, and I’m also aware that we’ve grown up in front of people and we’ve done movies where we fall in love with each other, so I really do understand that, and I don’t want to dismiss that like, ‘Stay out of my business’ or whatever.”
She explained that she and Holland aren’t trying to “hide from the world” but want to “preserve things” for themselves to “maintain that joy” they find in their relationship.
“I hear [that people are interested], but I also [have] my own little boundaries of what I like to bring up and talk about, but then also what I’m also willing to share, you know?” she said, adding, “I just try to find the balance in the middle there.”
Holland has made similar comments, telling GQ in 2021,”One of the downsides of our fame is that privacy isn’t really in our control anymore, and a moment that you think is between two people that love each other very much is now a moment that is shared with the entire world,” referring to paparazzi shots of the couple that revealed they were dating.
“I’ve always been really adamant to keep my private life private, because I share so much of my life with the world anyway. We sort of felt robbed of our privacy. I don’t think it’s about not being ready. It’s just that we didn’t want to,” he added.
Despite the challenges of dating in the public eye, Zendaya and Holland are committed to protecting and prioritizing their relationship.
