Sony Pictures Opens CinemaCon 2026 with Focus on Theatrical Windows and Family Content

LAS VEGAS, NV – Sony Pictures opened CinemaCon 2026 at Caesars Palace with a presentation focused on the long-term viability of the theatrical model. For the Marvel franchise, director Destin Daniel Cretton and actor Tom Holland discussed the narrative arc of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Slated for July 31, 2026, the presentation included an extended action sequence highlighting the character’s growth.

Sony Pictures Animation unveiled Buds, an original comedy exploring plant life designed for younger audiences. Additionally, producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller provided updates on Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which is now set for release on June 18, 2027.

The studio confirmed that production has wrapped on the live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. While specific plot details remain confidential, a debut trailer is expected to arrive in June 2026.

Rothman emphasized the necessity of collaboration between studios and exhibitors to provide high-value experiences. While the focus was on family-oriented titles, Sony also confirmed production updates for the Insidious and Resident Evil horror franchises.
