Marvel unveiled a major plot detail for the upcoming AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY as it showed Dr. Doom fawning over one of the 10 rings from SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS along with Doctor Strange’s Eye of Agamotto.

“I think these movies are going to be a surprise to people – we found a way into the story that’s very exciting to us, but we think very radical and it’s going to challenge audiences,” Joe Russo said about the movie in February.

The latest insight into the movie, which came from a light show production at an event in Shanghai, revealed just how crazy the movie could get. After revealing Dr. Doom was chasing one of the 10 rings as well as the Eye of Agamotto, things got even crazier as he used them to seemingly shatter the multiverse. This places many of the MCU heroes in danger as several of the stories take place in different universes, such as X-Men, Fantastic Four and the Avengers.

Thus, these worlds will likely have to team up in order to defeat Dr. Doom and save their worlds from being destroyed. While fans already knew the movie would include these teams, the teaser also suggested a new world may enter the multiverse, led by a new Black Panther.

This information potentially sheds new light on a previous teaser which left many fans boggled as they struggled to make sense of it. The teaser in question was a photo posted on Instagram that fans’ best guess was of a zoomed in capture of Mr. Fantastic’s chalkboard as he worked to solve a complicated problem.

Now knowing just how involved the multiverse will be in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY, perhaps the problem Mr. Fantastic was working to solve was how to move between different universes in the multiverse, or even how to restore a universe that has been wiped out by Dr. Doom.

Whatever the case, those working on the movie are excited for just how many heroes are involved in the project. Marvel Studio head, Kevin Feige, shared how fun it is to have so many characters interact with each other.

“The fun of an Avengers movie is introducing people to each other and seeing how very different personalities get along,” Feige said. “In the case of a movie that involves the threat of worlds literally colliding, it’s fun to see them visit each other’s homes. So with the Baxter Building set, let’s say it had four or five people in it at most in the FANTASTIC FOUR movie. And it’s got a heck of a lot more people in it [in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY].”

While AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY is still over a year away, releasing in December 2026, the plot for the story continues to come into focus as promotion for the movie starts to ramp up.
