Filmmaker Sean McNamara’s newest project, HOME, is a “love story” filled with “redemption and real tension.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, HOME will follow “Johnny J (Mike Vogel), a charming con man sentenced to community service. His path changes when he bonds with an immigrant child named Gustavo, and Johnny soon must risk everything to help protect the youngster and create a home for him.”
Along with Vogel, the movie will star Alexa PenaVega, Dennis Haysbert and Devon Franklin. Lincoln Fox will play Gustavo.
McNamara, who directed Movieguide® Award winner SOUL SURFER, heads up HOME. Howie Klausner and Dutch Hofstetter Jr. wrote the script, while Garrett Backstrom, David Brookwell and Dutch Hofstetter Sr. serve as producers for Brookwell McNamara Entertainment.
“HOME is a story about redemption, belonging and the unexpected ways we find purpose through other people,” McNamara said, per THR. “At its core, it’s about protecting those who need it most and redefining what family really means.”
Backstrom shared a few more details on Instagram, including HOME’s real-life Christian inspiration.
“This film is a love story, full of redemption and real tension…inspired by one of the most remarkable lives in Christian history: George Müller,” he said earlier this month. “If his name is new to you, I can’t wait to introduce you to what God did through him!”
“Five years ago, my dad called me, and he said, ‘Garrett, you have to read this book on George Müller.’ And that phone call led me here,” he explained. “We are on principal photography of a movie that took me five years to make.”
Müller, born in Germany in 1805, cared for over 10,000 orphans in England in his lifetime, praying for the finances and resources he needed to provide for them. According to Desiring God, he never directly asked for money but trusted that God would put it on people’s hearts to give what he needed.
Backstrom said that Müller’s life “inspired four very different characters in this film, and I believe that their stories are going to inspire you.”
“They’re going to challenge you to step up to be able to care for kids who have been abandoned,” he emphasized.
“I make films because the screen is a rudder. It moves people,” Backstrom said. “My goal is to make sure it moves them toward something true…great storytelling, real craft, and values that actually matter. This one’s about family, faith, adoption, and the courage to use your gifts for something bigger than yourself. Stay close. This is just the beginning.”
With an incredible legacy like Müller’s to take inspiration from, HOME is certain to be a powerful movie that changes hearts and minds.
