The latest trailer for NCIS: TONY & ZIVA just dropped, setting fans abuzz about the newly revealed details — and what it means for their favorite NCIS couple.
“Tony and Ziva have been raising their daughter, Tali, together,” an official synopsis for the show reads. “When Tony’s security company is attacked, they must go on the run across Europe, try to figure out who is after them and maybe even learn to trust each other again so that they can finally have their unconventional happily ever after.”
In this latest look at TONY & ZIVA, fans get to see the titular characters make their way through Europe after their daughter is threatened. However, like most viewers, Tali just has one question on her mind: “Are you two getting back together?”
The trailer debuted at this year’s Comic-Con, where Michael Weatherly, who plays Tony, described the show as “kind of a cross between techno-thriller and romantic comedy.”
Showrunner John McNamara spoke to TV Insider at Comic-Con, telling the outlet TONY & ZIVA came about “because Michael would not stop bugging me.”
“We both have a deep love of espionage, movies, books, TV, and we’ve been friends for actually 31 years, and there’s always been talk between seasons or when we’re both free of like, ‘Let’s do a thing in Europe, would that be cool? A Hitchcock thing,’” he continued.
Cote de Pablo, who plays Ziva, said she and Weatherly had “talked about [TONY & ZIVA] for a very long time until a lot of people who made this happen actually came together and destiny played its part. And it happened.”
“What we got to do again in Europe was a chance to play,” she said of the show’s production. “It was very emotional, to be fair. You’re going back to play with someone you’ve got that chemistry with.”

She and Weatherly remarked on their chemistry, which was apparent “right from the jump” when they started working together on NCIS and is one of the factors that led to so much fan interest in a spin-off.
“You were very special,” Weatherly told his co-star, while de Pablo replied, “The instant we met, we gelled.”
De Pablo called TONY & ZIVA “an epic love story that’s not yet been resolved,” while Weatherly added, “It’s not a ‘will they or won’t they.’ It’s a ‘when they.’”
The first three episodes of NCIS: TONY & ZIVA premiere Sept. 4 on Paramount+.
