Christian artist and AMERICAN IDOL alum Danny Gokey celebrated “In God We Trust” Day on April 22 by sharing his song “My America” and appreciating the United States armed forces.
“It’s #InGodWeTrust Day! … 160 years of it being printed on our coins, and why I still believe in this beautiful country! ❤️??,” he shared on social media with a clip from his “My America” music video. “So today we honor those who have served, and the loved ones who support them – because of them we can celebrate our brave history, and hold onto hope for a bright future! ? ?? ?”
He added, “Thank you to all our troops who have served and gave their lives to our country ?????”
Gokey previously told CBN that he’s proud of America and wants others to have hope for its prosperity instead of its demise.
Some of the lyrics of “My America” read:
I still believe in us, Oh America
You’re still the land I love though a little bruised up
Stars and Stripes still cry Liberty
Over evil over tyranny
Blood poured out
For our freedom
Sacrificed it all for this nation
I still believe in us
My America
Gokey doesn’t care that making patriotic music may appear controversial to others. He pointed out to CBN that Jesus often did controversial things.
“We’re not supposed to win people over by compromising our values,” Gokey said.
Movieguide® previously reported on Gokey’s patriotism:
“I still believe in America,” Gokey told CCM magazine. “We’re not perfect—we’ve made our mistakes. But I still believe that God has used, and will continue to use, America to do great things.”
“Rather than argue about our differences we can choose to agree on our one major common denominator—freedom. And freedom is worth celebrating,” the singer said.
