Danny Gokey Celebrates America in New EP: ‘I Still Believe in America’

Three-time Grammy nominee Danny Gokey loves his country, and in his new EP “Brave,” he shows fans just how much.
The EP features Gokey’s two original songs and his rendition of Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the U.S.A..”
“It is OK to love your country,” Gokey told CBN’s Faithwire. “As a matter of fact, you probably should love your country. Otherwise, your country won’t be very strong if the people don’t love it.”
“There’s never been a country like us — and probably will never be like a country like us,” he added. “So, I wanted to just point people to the hope of our country, to the bravery of our country, to the goodness of the land.”
“I still believe in America,” Gokey told CCM magazine. “We’re not perfect—we’ve made our mistakes. But I still believe that God has used, and will continue to use, America to do great things.”
“Rather than argue about our differences we can choose to agree on our one major common denominator—freedom. And freedom is worth celebrating,” the singer said.
Gokey revealed that God called him to create the EP, and he couldn’t shy away from what God called him to do.
“Jesus never avoided controversy,” Gokey explained. “We’re not supposed to win people over by compromising our values.”
While the Bible does not change, Gokey admits that some viewpoints could be “offensive under the new rules and under the new truths of our culture.”
“What has changed is people’s perception of what truth is,” he said.
“As Christians, our aim should be to have a positive influence on everything and everyone, including our country,” Gokey said to CCM Magazine. “It may not always seem like it, but God is in control, and has a purpose for America, and my hope is for people to find the courage to stand firm in and up for that!”
“It’s not just ‘my’ America, ‘their’ or ‘your’ America. It’s ‘our’ America and I believe that we can still make an impact, if we are united!” he concluded.
Gokey shared his rendition of “God Bless the U.S.A.” on Instagram earlier this year.
The musician wrote, “I can’t think of a better way to celebrate our country than this timeless classic from @theleegreenwood! It was an honor to include it on my new EP, along with two other original songs … the perfect additions to your 4th of July playlists!”
Movieguide® previously reported on Gokey’s EP:
Singer Danny Gokey wants to restore American patriotism and inspire unity in the hearts of Americans.
“There are so many opinions out there, and when it comes to our country, since there are so many voices of shame, guilt, opinions and ideas, people don’t know what to feel,” Gokey told The Christian Post.
To help restore people’s pride in the U.S., Gokey released a three-song EP titled, Brave. The EP includes a cover of Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA,” along with two original songs, “Brave” and “My America.” The singer also released a “My America” music video to share his message.
