TOY STORY will make its way back to the big screen for its 30th anniversary.

The Pixar classic, which originally premiered in 1995, will re-release in theaters on Sept. 12 for its anniversary, KTLA5 reported on July 17.

The animated movie centers around cowboy toy Woody, who becomes jealous when a fancy new spaceman, Buzz Lightyear, steals his kid’s — and the other toys’ — attention. When they get separated from their kid, they form a friendship by working together.

Tom Hanks voices Woody, while Tim Allen voices Buzz.

Pixar announced the re-release with a special 30-year anniversary poster image on X on July 17.

“Mark your calendars! Disney & Pixar’s Toy Story returns to the BIG SCREEN September 12,” the X post read.

The news comes ahead of TOY STORY 5’s release on June 19, 2026.

The Oscars said “animation was changed forever” when TOY STORY came out. It was one of the highest-grossing movies in 1995.

“The genre, known for transporting audiences to new worlds, was up until that point mostly hand-drawn, using techniques made popular by Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros,” an Oscars newsletter said. “But when Disney joined forces with Pixar — a then-up-and-coming computer animation studio chaired by Steve Jobs — for TOY STORY, the first computer-animated feature film was born, and a new world of film was unlocked.”

Allen and Hanks will continue to voice their characters in TOY STORY 5. Allen told WIVB that the movie will focus more on  cowgirl Jessie. According to director Andrew Stanton, the movie will also tackle modern issues — mainly technology’s effect on childhood play.

“In TOY STORY 5 the toys’ jobs get exponentially harder when our toy crew goes head-to-head with what kids are obsessed with today: electronics,” he said at last year’s D23.

The concept art, revealed at D23, showed the toys watching their kid sadly as she was engrossed in a tablet.

Pete Docter, executive producer of TOY STORY 5 and a creator and writer behind TOY STORY and TOY STORY 2, said there will be some surprises in the fifth installment.

“It’s got some really cool stuff that you haven’t seen before,” he said.

“I can tell you that it’s a lot about Jessie,” Allen said. “Tom [Hanks] and I do — Woody and I — do realign. And there’s an unbelievable opening scene with Buzz Lightyear. I can give you that, but I can’t give you much more.”

TOY STORY movies 1-4 are available to stream for Disney+ subscribers.
