Hollywood canceled Kevin Sorbo for his faith and conservative beliefs over 10 years ago, but the actor has seen a surprising shift in the industry since then.
“I was the first cancel culture victim before I knew it was a term. Hollywood booted me a dozen years ago for the things I was posting on the internet…because they hate the truth,” Sorbo told Fox News. “They hate anybody who’s a Christian in Hollywood, anybody who’s a conservative, so I was like a double leopard to them.”
“I think there’s [been] a shift. I think with Trump in office again right now, there’s definitely a shift… And Hollywood is shifting a little bit because I’m starting to get calls from studios saying, ‘Hey, you know, there’s this big thing with this [faith-based] stuff, so maybe send us a couple scripts,’” Sorbo continued. “So I’m reaching out to Netflix and Amazon with a couple of the scripts that I have that aren’t in your face about faith, but there are messages in there, they’re positive messages instead of a negative one.”
Sorbo believes this change has come as more and more faith-based content finds success, while abhorrent content continues to struggle. Instead of digging in, Hollywood has started making changes for the sake of money, producing more positive projects.
“I think people are tired of it, and Hollywood’s tired of losing money…so, I think the American people are fed up, and I think they showed it in the last election as well. They said enough is enough of this stuff…” Sorbo explained. “That’s what Hollywood used to put out there, movies that had hope and love and laughter and redemption and faith. And, you know, Hollywood used to do a lot of these kinds of movies. And I think they’re waking up a little bit now because they’re losing a lot of money on this woke insanity. So let’s see what happens with it.”
Major companies like Amazon have already produced faith-based content like HOUSE OF DAVID, a show that tells the story of King David. It was a massive success, eventually becoming the No. 1 show on the platform, and Prime Video already greenlit it for a second season.
“The goal of what we do is to get people to say, ‘Is that in the Bible?’…and to draw people back to the book,” HOUSE OF DAVID creator Jon Erwin previously explained. “It’s like these shows, hopefully in their purest form of gigantic billboards say, ‘Go to the sword.’ I love that.”
As faith-based content continues to find success, it’s encouraging to see major Hollywood players pursue this content in partnership with Christians like Sorbo and Erwin, providing audiences with the uplifting content they have long clamored for.
