LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE’s Melissa Gilbert is a proud grandmother to a future rockstar!
“Y’all, this is my granddaughter Lulu !!,” she posted on Instagram under a video of Lulu singing and playing guitar. “She’s going to be 11 in November and I cannot get over how brilliantly talented she is!”
In the video clip, the 11 year-old performs the Cranberries’ “Zombie” alongside a band of kids.
“Not only is she talented, she’s so smart and funny and compassionate and generous. I’m so proud of her I could just explode,” Gilbert continued. “I love you Lulu!!! xoxo, Granny Mel.”
Gilbert has previously spoken about her close relationship with Lulabelle. In a 2024 interview with USA Today, she shared that the pair had recently watched some episodes of LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE together.
After asking if they could watch more, Gilbert said Lulu asked her, “Granny Mel, will you put my hair in braids?”
The actress posted the moment on Instagram as well, captioning a shot of the pair together, “That amazing moment when, three episodes into her first time watching #littlehouseontheprairie, my granddaughter Lulabelle asked me to put her hair in braids. #blessed.”
These days, Gilbert is focused on her role as a grandmother and enjoying a simpler life in upstate New York with husband, actor Timothy Busfield.
“When you live in Los Angeles, it’s like living at the mall when you work at the mall,” she told PEOPLE in 2024. “It puts a lot of pressure on staying thin and staying young and really it makes it hard to feel comfortable in one’s own skin, because [of] the aging process. I had to get out of there [L.A.], because it felt like I was not being authentically myself.”
Leaving Hollywood hasn’t slowed Gilbert’s career down, though. She recently joined the cast of WHEN CALLS THE HEART, where she co-stars alongside Michael Landon Jr., the son of Michael Landon, her LITTLE HOUSE father.
“It’s like going home. Working with Mike Jr. is like going home,” she told PEOPLE. “I know that whatever he has me doing and saying I can trust is going to be wonderful and exciting and interesting.”
Gilbert continued, “We’ve been friends for 50-some-odd years, and I adore him, I adore his family. I think his wife is just the greatest. It’s just so nice to be back in an environment where I feel completely protected, appreciated, and loved.”
It looks like Gilbert’s granddaughter might be ready to follow in her grandmother’s creative footsteps!
