Two-time WNBA champion Kelsey Plum clings to Christ’s love amid the trials.
Plum recently announced that she and her husband, NFL tight end Darren Waller, have filed for divorce.
“I’m devastated,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories. “I walked through fire for that man, but now I see it’s time to go. God has given me an incredible life, and I’m truly so grateful for the profound love from my family and friends.”
“One day I’ll share my story, today is not that day,” she continued. “Thank you for the grace to process my pain, to forgive and move forward. Today and everyday I will continue to choose joy. Much love, KP.”
The athlete also included Philippians 1:6, which reads, “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”
Despite the pain she’s going through, Plum continues to choose joy and focuses on the Lord and other young athletes who are about to make a splash in the WNBA.
Through her training camp, “Kelsey Plum Dawg Class,” Plum invites the top women’s basketball stars from around the country to compete and train with the best.
“Y’all these women brought joy to my soul,” she wrote of the camp. “The game is in great hands. Service is the gift that keeps giving. Thank you @uabasketball for making my vision come to life. Dawg class year ✌??”
Plum also hosts camps for middle school boys and girls.
Under Armor basketball wrote, “GROWING THE GAME ? Middle school boys and girls from the Cleveland Metro School District had the chance to compete and learn from @kelseyplum10 as part of her youth access camp powered by UA Next.”
Plum also shared a series of photos from the camp, including one with John 15:5, which says, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
Movieguide® recently reported on Plum’s faith:
Plum recently launched her own signature shoe that promotes mental health awareness.
“Really proud to share my Breakthru 4 Mental Health Awareness shoes,” she wrote. “Mental health is very important to me, so these mean a lot to be able to wear!”
“Mental health for me is very important,” she added. “Very important to talk about. Very important to be vulnerable, very important to just be open and share what I’ve gone through.”
She’s also open about how important her faith is. After a difficult start to 2023, she turned to God for help.
“I think a lot of times when we talk about faith, it’s looking at something bigger than yourself. There’s purpose in it,” she explained.
“Faith is things you can’t see but you know. I know that God has always had a plan for me, and I always just pray that He directs my steps and just makes it really clear of what I should do, where I should go.”
