<spanstyle="font-size: large;">THOR rules a second weekend
THOR: THE DARK WORLD took first with a second strong weekend. It was followed by the weekend’s only wide-release newcomer THE BEST MAN HOLIDAY. LAST VEGAS, FREE BIRDS, and BAD GRANDPA rounded out the top five. FREE BIRDS would have to have a tremendous Thanksgiving boost to reach the $100 million mark.
Next weekend comes the box office juggernaut HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE. It’s expected to top $100 million in its first three days and quickly become one of the top ten movies of 2013. Disney’s F...

The web publication The Independent reports, “New research, commissioned by Warner Brothers, has suggested that women now tend to decide what films a couple should see. These same women, according to the polls, are uneasy with scenes which might be thought to stray into the explicit, or exploitative, or inappropriate in some way.”
In other words, sex doesn’t really sell.
Movieguide® has been telling the Entertainment Industry this for a long time. Twenty years of our annual Reports to the Entertainment Industry have shown that explicit sex is a death knell when it comes to attracting a general audience. Of course, R-rated sex movies can reach a limited audience, like R-rated horror movies can...

A largely unnoticed threat, oblivious to the general public, is aggressively invading and attacking the minds and bodies of our population causing serious life-threatening problems in the lives of children, students, parents, educators, and pastors, among others. Left unhindered, this threat will seriously endanger future generations unless we wake up, identify, confront and counteract this threat by taking informed, aggressive, and calculated steps to reverse its crippling and harmful consequences.
In the 1956 Science Fiction classic film, INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, the main character, Miles Bennel, is called away from a medical convention early by his office staff because they are experiencing a...

Being the third largest market in the world for movies, Japan’s influence over a Hollywood movie’s success is more powerful than some might think.
More than a decade ago, foreign movies in Japan grossed over $1.4 billion, but in 2012, foreign movies didn’t earn half of that. This summer, Hollywood strategically marketed movies like PACIFIC RIM and THE WOLVERINE that were either filmed in Japan, or contained elements that would appeal to a Japanese audience. Neither of those movies made the Top 25 in that country.
One movie that stands above the rest in Japan is Pixar’s MONSTERS UNIVERSITY, which is currently the second highest grossing movie in Japan and earned more than $90 million. Numbers indic...

Let's make a good, old-fashioned Hollywood drama.
Here's the plot sketch: A money-hungry cable network is searching for a new reality TV show to boost their ratings. They're fresh out of ideas when a marketing agent finds out about an interesting family from the backwoods of Louisiana, the Robertsons. They're self-made millionaires who run a duck call and sporting goods company, and they live in a swamp and go about life like an average, working-class family. The men also have some pretty epic beards.
The agent spills the news about what he's found, and the creative board at the cable company is drooling. This Louisiana bayou family has all the ingredients for a knockout reality show: unique, q...

5. If you want to make a great superhero movie that many people will see, focus on story, action, character, romance, humor, and the Good, the True, and the Beautiful rather than sex and violence.

MR. PEABODY AND SHERMAN are coming to the big screen! The original cartoon has been around for over 59 years, with most episodes lasting only six minutes, so making it a feature-length movie is a big deal.

Controversial rapper Kanye West is stirring up more controversy this fall.
He recently launched his “Yeezus” tour in Seattle and wasted no time making it clear to critics and fans that his style of performance and proclivity to shock hasn’t mellowed in the slightest.
During the Seattle show, West (in an effort to show one of the “awesome things” about Christianity) welcomed an actor wearing white robes and sandals, clearly portraying Jesus Christ, before performing his hit song, “Jesus Walks.”
The singer exclaimed, “White Jesus, is that you?!” followed by a four-letter word of irreverent surprise. “I’ve been waiting for you my whole life,” Wes...

The Rev. Billy Graham has hope for America. He’s calling on Christians in the United States this November to invite the lost into their homes to receive a message.
The main message Billy’s delivering, THE CROSS, will be available beginning Nov. 7, but you can see two bonus messages here and here. They are amazing! They include clips from Billy Graham's speaking at crusades, but Billy understands that the most powerful testimony of God's love and truth is in changed lives. The two programs contain three powerful personal testimonies each. The plan is for Christians to share these videos with guests and then briefly share their own testimony and ask if anyone w...
