HGTV Star Page Turner Emphasizes Importance Of Prayer: ‘You Have To Keep That Connection Daily’

By Movieguide® Contributor

HGTV star Page Turner is opening up about her faith journey and how she found God, despite being raised in an agnostic household.

Turner shared that her mother believed in “a higher power” and explored other religions, but never really found Christ.

“What’s interesting is she sent me to a Catholic, all-girls high school,” said Turner, adding, “She sent me there out of discipline because I was bad in public school.”

This experience is what ultimately led Turner to Christianity and a relationship with Jesus.

“It took me many years to find that relationship with the Lord outside of religion and the confines of religion, which I sort of got jarred in and stuck in,” the TV show host said. “When I finally found a relationship well into my twenties, now even in my late forties, it’s just growing and getting stronger and I’m getting more of an understanding of myself through my relationship with God.”

“It’s definitely been a journey,” Turner continued, “because I didn’t grow up in faith at all.”

Turner is relying on her relationship with God as she works on her show, FIX MY FLIP. She offers her money and expertise to people remodeling their homes, but says that not everyone accepts that help.

“You know, you can call on God for help, He sends help, and then that pride and ego comes in and it’s like, ‘I just gave you what to do and you’re not gonna believe me, either by doubt or fear or whatever it is that is keeping you from accepting the help?’” Turner said.

The TV show personality added that, even for believers, it’s important to humble ourselves before God and ask for help.

“That’s when He hears our call and our cries,” she said. “And it’s like, ‘OK, when are you going to get tired of going through what you’re going through?’ That’s the ultimate humility, you know, saying, ‘OK, I’m done with this because it’s not working my way.’”

Turner follows her own advice, turning to prayer whenever she feels unsure of her next move.

“Every day, I need to have some form of communication with God, especially when I feel like, ‘OK, I’m off track a little bit,’” Turner explained. “It’s real easy to praise God when everything is going good, but what I’ve learned is if you praise Him every day while everything is going good and you seek Him every day while everything is going good, when that challenging time comes, you won’t feel so disconnected from Him — because He’s never disconnected from us.”

“You have to keep that connection daily so that, when dips happen, it’s like, ‘OK, let me just go talk to God. I’ll be right back,’” she finished.
