Just like the rest of us, country superstar Dolly Parton loves Thanksgiving side dishes! From sage dressing to gravy, here are Parton’s favorites.
“Cooking is like writing a song,” Parton shared in an interview with AllRecipes. “Some of my best songs I came up with while cooking my best food, and vice versa. The better I write, the better I cook.”
In an interview with EatingWell, the country singer added, “We [she and sister Rachel] just love side dishes. We love having things to enhance that great meal and finding those perfect pairings that are really compatible.”

One of her favorite sides? Giblet gravy and potatoes. Parton has gone on the record with her love for potatoes, telling TODAY she “[has] to have something with potatoes” every day.
“I mean, I’m just one of those people that I have to either have a baked potato, some mashed potatoes, or some french fries, or something to do with potatoes,” she joked.
In a video for TikTok, Parton added, “I’ve never met a spud I didn’t like!”
Another one of Parton’s favorite side dishes is cornbread sage dressing.
“That’s one thing I look forward to at Thanksgiving and then I have to have that again at Christmas, no matter what else we serve,” she told Woman’s World, adding, “And you’ve got to have mashed potatoes and gravy, giblet gravy… And of course, cranberries. We have cranberries or the cranberry mold.”
Parton also loves green beans, telling EatingWell that the way her mother, grandmother and other family members cooked the vegetable meant they weren’t “your average green beans.”
Her sister Rachel added that green beans “reminds us of home and of Mama’s cooking.”
While the meal is definitely one of Parton’s favorite parts of the holiday, in 2023, the country singer celebrated Thanksgiving in a very special way: she performed at The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Kickoff Halftime Show at the Dallas Cowboys’ Thanksgiving Day game.
“Wow! What an honor to get to kick off The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign with the halftime show during the Dallas Cowboys game this Thanksgiving,” she said in a statement at the time. “Those Red Kettles have long been a symbol of hope for our friends and neighbors who are facing hard times. My goal is to encourage everyone who can to donate and support their neighbors in need. Every small act of generosity helps, and together, we can all love our neighbors this holiday season and beyond.”
Whether it’s enjoying the meal or encouraging others to lend a hand to those in need, Parton loves Thanksgiving!
