Country music star Dolly Parton is gearing up to perform her greatest hits and music from her upcoming album, “Rockstar,” at The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Kickoff Halftime Show at the Dallas Cowboys game on Thanksgiving Day.
“Dolly Parton, an 11-time Grammy award winner and country music generational icon, will be the performer at halftime of the Cowboys’ November 23 game with Washington at AT&T Stadium,” the Dallas Cowboys announced.
PR Newswire reported, “The Thanksgiving Day game marks the official start of one of the largest and longest-running annual fundraisers of its kind. A Cowboys tradition for 27 years, the halftime show puts a national spotlight on the need of millions during the holiday season, issuing a rallying cry to donate to The Salvation Army’s iconic Red Kettle Campaign, which began in 1891.”
The 77-year-old singer is eager to be part of the charitable tradition.
She said, “Wow! What an honor to get to kick off The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign with the halftime show during the Dallas Cowboys game this Thanksgiving. Those Red Kettles have long been a symbol of hope for our friends and neighbors who are facing hard times.”
Parton’s upcoming album, “Rockstar,” comes out November 17. “The 30-song collection… includes nine original tracks and 21 iconic rock anthems,” BlabberMouth.net reported.
It features collaborations with Sting, Miley Cyrus, Stevie Nicks, Elton John, P!nk, Brandi Carlile, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Sheryl Crow, Emmylou Harris and other A-list performers.
Movieguide® recently reported on Parton’s collaboration with Christian artist Natalie Grant:
The duo covered Whitney Houston’s “Step By Step,” “dubbed one of Houston’s best songs,” marking the first time Grant and Parton have recorded together…
“This song was my reminder to keep putting one foot in front of the other. If you would’ve told me then that one day, I would not only be recording this song, but doing it with an international icon, I never ever would’ve believed it. I still can’t believe it,” the singer reflected.
