More Detail:

Likely to be a Romantic-Comedy hit, BYE BYE LOVE stars Matthew Modine, Randy Quaid and Paul Reiser in a light-hearted story of three divorced dads attempting to make life as normal as possible for their children, in spite of their single status. Dave, a two-timing, smooth talking ladies man, is constantly in trouble for his uncontrolled urges. Vic, having had only three dates in the past eight months, and one of them was his cousin, is consumed with revenge on his ex-wife. Donny, who still loves and pines over his ex-wife, struggles with his inability to communicate with his fourteen-year-old daughter.

Because of the oft included scenes at a McDonalds restaurant, the movie takes on the look of a made-for-TV info-mercial, though this does not distract from the plot. Regardless, the movie is tastefully done and well-crafted. Also, the casting of Janeane Garofalo in a supporting role proves a brilliant stroke. Her performance is likely to earn an Oscar nomination. Like many other films, however, BYE BYE LOVE is marred by the unfortunate inclusion of a handful of obscene words and one implied sexual encounter. The movie’s premise, “marriage does not last, but love is important,” seems convincingly proven, though it is a sad commentary on the status quo. Furthermore, moral policy has eternal consequences that dare not be ignored.
