What You Need To Know:

HYPNOSISMIC is an animated Japanese musical set in the future where six male teams battle against each other in an epic rap battle to see who will control Japan. The winner will then face a female-led team to determine who stands on top at the end. The movie is interactive. In each screening, viewers can choose between 48 different paths and seven endings.

HYPNOSISMIC contains high quality animation with bright colors, unique settings, fresh character designs, and high-octane performances. The music, which is perhaps the movie’s most important feature, is really well done. Also, since the movie’s interactive, HYPNOSISMIC feels like a live competition. With 48 different paths and seven endings, moviegoers can end up with a different movie in each movie screening. This makes the experience extremely engaging. However, HYPNOSISMIC depicts a power system that leans toward paganism. Basically, the performers use a “Hypnosis Mic,” which summons musical avatars and delivers lyrics that directly affect the human soul or spirit. HYPNOSISMIC has more than 20 obscenities and profanities and a few suggestive moments. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children.

Content:

(Pa, Fe, LL, V, S, N, M): Dominant worldview: Soft pagan worldview, power system is through a special microphone (the “Hypnosis Mic”) summoning musical avatar (such as a drum set, computer with speakers, skeleton head out of a coffin, etc.), the mic can also directly affect the human spirit, there was also a Buddhist monk rapper, but the movie didn’t dive deep into Buddhism; Foul language: About 22 obscenities, one GD profanity and one or two light profanities;

Violence:

Light violence occurs when physical manifestation of lyrics strikes opposing teams, lyrics included some implied violence against the other rapper but more like examples of mean disrespect, known as a “dis,” than anything else;

Sex:

There’s an ambiguous, though suggestive, scene where a male rapper balances on all fours while holding his mic while another male rapper lies flat beneath him and then they reverse positions, and a female holds a tossing coin between her breasts;

Nudity:

One of the women in the female-led organization KOTONOHATOH has some clearly explicit cleavage, this character grabbed a coin between her breasts multiple times for the first round of rap battles to flip it and determine which team goes first;

Alcohol Use:

No alcohol use;

Smoking and/or Drug Use and Abuse:

At least two characters regularly smoke cigarettes, but there are no drugs; and,

Miscellaneous Immorality:

One rapper gambles a lot.
