After a thrilling overtime win, Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young gave all the glory to God after he overcame an ankle injury and set a new record.

“First and foremost, all glory goes to God…Without him, I’m nothing. He’s the reason for everything,” Young told NFL ON FOX after the comeback win. “So, you know, all glory goes to Him, and I just ride around my teammates. You know, I’m super grateful to be a Panther, be part of this team. We’re so resilient. We keep fighting. We always believe we’re always going to the next play. So just leaning on them is what got the job done.”

The Panthers overcame the Atlanta Falcons 30-27 in overtime on Sunday.

According to ESPN, Young “passed for a franchise-record 448 yards and three touchdowns. He drove the Panthers in position for the winning field goal in overtime thanks to a short pass that tight end Tommy Tremble turned into 54-yard gain. Young almost single-handedly helped Carolina improve to 6-5 and move a half-game behind the NFC South-leading Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-4).”

With 448 yards, Young broke “Cam Newton’s single-game Panthers record of 432 passing yards, set in 2011 during a Week 2 game against the Green Bay Packers.”

“Definitely honored,” Young said of setting the new record. “I have so much respect for Cam, all that he’s accomplished. Hearing that is definitely an honor.”

However, “Individual awards, that’s not what I’m after,” the quarterback admitted. “They don’t mean anything. I’m grateful that we won. We had the most important stat, that we won.”

In the first quarter of the game, Young had to head to the locker room because of an ankle injury. Soon after, he returned to lead his team to victory.

“‘Pain’ is an accurate way to sum it up,” Young told ESPN afterwards. “You just breathe through the pain.”

Several of his teammates commented on his perseverance and resilience on the field.

“He’s always level-headed. The moment is never too big. He’s built for moments like this one,” wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan said of Young.

In 2023, the Panthers selected Young as the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft.

“It’s a dream come true,” Young said after he was selected. “I’m blessed. I want to thank God for allowing me to be here, for my parents and everyone who’s supported me. Although it’s my name being called, there’s so many people that pushed me and allowed me to be here.”

Even though he set a new record for the most passing yards in a single game, for Young, it’s about leading his team and honoring God well.
