As the holiday season draws near, people await one of television’s most beloved Christmas movies, the stop-motion classic RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER.
This year, fans will be treated to multiple broadcast times so they can be sure to enjoy the adventure of Rudolph, his shiny red nose and the magic of Christmas.
The 1964 special returns to its original broadcast home of NBC for its main presentation on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 8:00 p.m. ET, with an encore broadcast on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 8:00 p.m. ET.
The holiday favorite previously aired annually on CBS from 1972 through 2023. But when CBS lost its rights in 2023, NBC took back the Christmas classic, where it originally premiered in 1964. Another favorite holiday flick FROSTY THE SNOWMAN also is under NBC and available to stream on Peacock.

There are plenty of other classics to watch this holiday season as well.
A CHRISTMAS STORY, ELF, starring Will Ferrell, THE POLAR EXPRESS and NATIONAL LAMPOON’S CHRISTMAS VACATION all stream on HBO Max. HOME ALONE, HOME ALONE 2: LOST IN NEW YORK and THE MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL will be available on Disney+, as well as THE SANTA CLAUSE, starring Tim Allen.
Movieguide® rates several of these Christmas classics highly.
THE SANTA CLAUSE, for example, recieved a +2 for content with the review saying that the movie “is a delightful adventure fantasy. While admittedly feel-good, light-weight fare, the movie is definitely an uplifting experience even for adults.”
THE POLAR EXPRESS was rated +1 for content. Part of Movieguide®’s review reads, “THE POLAR EXPRESS is a rare treat. The adventures before getting to the North Pole are wonderful, thrilling and inspiring. THE POLAR EXPRESS has a look and feel unlike any other animated movie you will see. It is well worth seeing.”
Another beloved Christmas movie, IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE, streams on Prime Video, Apple TV+ and Fubo. Movieguide® praises its “very strong Christian, moral, pro-life worldview.” Part of the review reads:
IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE is arguably the most beloved movie of all time. It’s certainly the most uplifting, rewarding and redemptive movie. It’s also funny, emotionally powerful, psychologically enriching, and beautifully made. IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE is a pro-life masterpiece by Director Frank Capra, with brilliant performances by Jimmy Stewart, Donna Reed, and a cast of terrific character actors. Slight caution is advised for some false angelology, but the movie honors God in a whimsical, profound, powerful way.
Whatever you are doing this holiday season, there are plenty of family-friendly Christmas classics to watch as you snuggle by the fire and reflect on the meaning of the season.
