FIREPROOF actor Kirk Cameron shares why it’s important to raise his kids in biblical truth.
“For me, the hardest thing about parenting is being single-minded in your priorities,” Cameron explained in a new podcast episode. “It’s so easy for me as a man, as the provider and the protector, [as] the prophet, the priest in my home…And by that, I mean that I have unique roles as a dad.”
All of those roles take time and focus, but there still has to be a top priority, and that’s making sure that kids “walk in truth.”
“And sometimes I forget that the most important thing is not making money. It’s it’s not providing physically. It’s providing spiritually, emotionally,” he explained.
“It’s providing in all the most important relational ways. And so, at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter if I’ve got a million dollars in the bank and a big house and a nice truck,” Cameron said. “What really matters is, have I done the two most important things?”
He shared that God’s biggest commandment is loving God with all of your heart.
“And the second is like it: love your neighbor as yourself,” he said.
“There is no greater joy than seeing my children walk in truth,” Cameron said. “And so for me, it has been a constant intentional effort to keep priorities straight because I like the grind. I like the hard work. I like being intentional, but I got to make sure that I’m pointing all that effort at what matters most.”

Dr. Kathy Koch, who speaks in Cameron’s documentary, CONNECT, says a part of instilling biblical character in children is showing them that God is on their side and that He equips and protects them.
“They need to believe they can do much for God and that being marked as a follower of Christ is the very best mark of all. Children also need to believe they can and should do the right things right,” she said. “They need to believe that being good is important and worthwhile, even if it costs them something.”
Cameron also talks about the battle for kids’ hearts in the documentary.
“Fighting for your kids’ hearts is what it’s all about. That is where the battle lies, and it is a good battle that I am happy to fight every day,” he said.
It is a battle that all parents should fight when it comes to their kids.
