Phil Wickham Hopes to Increase ‘People’s Faith’ Through Prayer Journal

By Movieguide® Contributor

Christian artist Phil Wickham is sharing the impact his prayer journal, “On Our Knees,” is having on readers.

“It’s been amazing to watch it connect with thousands of people over the last…eight months,” he said while appearing on K-Love’s “Scott and Kelli” radio show. “Just increasing people’s faith and deepening their relationship with Jesus has been amazing.”

Wickham spoke of his own practice of writing down his prayers, saying, “You can save those prayers and go back to them, and it’s amazing…I’ve got prayer journals from, like, 20 years ago, praying for this girl named Mallory…and now she’s my wife.”

“I can just see people talking to God through [the journal] and connect with Him,” he concluded. “I can’t wait for people to have it.”

The singer spoke further on the response to “On Our Knees” in an Instagram post.

“If you would have told me a few years ago that I was going to write a book I would not have believed,” Wickham wrote. “By God’s grace and leading it was written and released, and the last 12 months of watching it connect have been incredible. I’m truly blown away by the lists it’s been on and the recognition it has received, but I’m even more thrilled by the impact it’s had on personal lives.”

He continued, “My life and relationship with God was changed forever by writing “On Our Knees.” As God did a work in my heart I could only hope and pray that He would use the book to do the same in others lives as well. Now sitting here a year out, I’m overflowing with gratitude at all the notes, comments, messages and conversations of how the simple truths in this book have impacted others and brought them closer to Jesus. What an honor. What a blessing!”

In addition to “On Our Knees,” Wickham is also celebrating the release of his latest album, “I Believe.”

“There’s a service and a thoughtfulness to the listener in worship music,” he told Billboard of his musical process. “I’m not writing this just to share my story. I’m writing in a way that this is everybody’s story, and to give them a new prayer to sing back to God, this is something for us to do together.”

Christian musician Phil Wickham recently opened up about the songwriting journey behind his latest 14-track album, “I Believe.”

Wickham shared the inspiration for the album’s standout song, “I Believe,” with Joy FM:

“There are so many people in a state of crisis of their faith. The people I know closely (are asking) – what is real? What do I believe? Then, you look outside of the church and outside the faith, obviously looking for hope.”

“In a crazy world that seems like it’s shifting every week, they’re looking for some solid rock to stand on, that’s not shifting underneath their feet. And I believe I’ve found it – with all my heart – in the person of Jesus,” Wickham said.
