Jonathan Roumie’s Stands for Life Because ‘God Asked Me To’

Jonathan Roumie’s Stands for Life Because ‘God Asked Me To’

THE CHOSEN star Jonathan Roumie participated in the 2023 March for Life and spoke with the Catholic Herald about how standing up for life has impacted his career.

In the interview, Roumie was asked, “Can you tell me more about that and, in a sense, publicly coming out as being pro-life because I know you said in your speech it was a hard decision for you.”

When asked how being pro-life affected his career, Roumie joked, “Career killer. No, I am 100 percent joking.”

On a more serious note, he said, “It doesn’t have any effect on my career because that’s what God asked me to do. I didn’t want to do it.”

Roumie explained that he experienced fears and doubts about taking such a public stance on a controversial issue.

“I thought ‘What’s going to happen?’ And it was like worst-case scenarios in my mind and that was the fear talking and that was the enemy trying to get in my head. And even the people that I had asked counsel to about this, and rightly so, were like, ‘Well, maybe it’s not the best thing to do professionally,’” he said.

He shared how God walked with him through the entire process.

“I think it was the right thing for me to do. It was an uncomfortable thing for me to do. But, as usual, God’s got my back and he’s walking me through every moment that I do something that feels a little unusual for me. And it ends up being much better than I ever could have imagined — a much better decision than I ever could have predicted.”

During his 16-minute March for Life speech last year, Roumie encouraged the audience that God loves them and has a purpose for their lives.

He quoted Psalm 139:

For you formed my inward parts you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works, my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was being made in secret intricately woven in the depths of the Earth. You saw my eyes unformed you saw your eyes saw my unformed substance in your book were written every one of them the days that were formed for me when as yet there was none.

Roumie also celebrated the overturning of Rowe vs. Wade and talked about God’s heart for the unborn. He said, “God is love, and true love gives way to life, not death.”

He concluded his speech by stating his hopes for the “preservation and value of life, restoring respect for faith and true religious tolerance, and healing some of our beloved nation’s wounds in the process, while hopefully planting us more deeply within God’s grace.”

The 2024 March for Life is Jan. 19.

“We celebrate the heroic work of Pregnancy Care Centers and Maternity Homes, while offering a roadmap to how we will truly achieve a life-affirming culture that respects the inherent dignity of all human life,” said Jeanne Mancini, President of March for Life.

Pastor Greg Laurie, Christian artist Danny Gokey and former NFL star Benjamin Watson will speak at this year’s event.

Movieguide® reported:

Pastor Greg Laurie announced on Wednesday that he, his wife Cathe Laurie and former NFL star Benjamin Watson will speak at 2024’s March for Life event, along with Christian artist Danny Gokey.

“Cathe Laurie and I are honored to be asked to speak and pray at the March For Life event in Washington, DC on January 19, 2024,” Laurie said.

“Every year since 1974, pro-life advocates have gathered to spread a message of hope and life for innocent babies at risk of abortion and to help change the narrative in support of life,” the pastor said. “This year’s theme, which was announced on November 14, will be ‘With Every Woman, For Every Child.’ Join us!”

March for Life confirmed that Gokey and Watson will also be there. The singer and former NFL player haven’t spoken about the event just yet, but in 2021, Gokey shared a heartfelt message on his socials: “I’ve made it known that I am pro-life, but that means I am not only for the pre-born, but also for the mothers! I believe that God’s heart is for all to be saved – ALL are welcome.”
