Mr. T Explains Why Jesus’ Gospel is the Greatest Invitation of All Time

By Movieguide® Contributor

Mr. T discussed the implication of the Gospel and why it is the greatest invitation of all time.

“‘Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved,’” Mr. T said, quoting Romans 10:13. “You can’t help but realize this is an unlimited invitation. This invitation is most uncommon and most unusual because this invitation means that any man, every man and all men are welcome. This invitation means whosoever will, let them come.”

This invitation is markedly different from any invitation a human could give. When we host events or are looking for people to join a team, there are always conditions attached. Invitations for close gatherings like parties or weddings are given to those we know and like. Even wider offers, like joining the military, are not open to everyone but only those who meet certain criteria.

“The most important thing you notice is that God is not a segregationist. If any man, any man [desires],” Mr. T said. “Jesus the great inviter calls for all men to come to him. The rich, the poor and the ugly.”

Mr. T believes this is an example for the church, which should be open to all people. While some may not accept the message and give their life to Christ, the church should still be open for them to enter at any time.

“Jesus said come,” he said. “There’s a kind of totality in this [invitation]. If any man, there’s a kind of Christian outreach within the ministry of our Jesus Christ.”

The broadness of the invitation is something that all believers have benefited from at some point in their lives. We were all strangers to Christ and have come to know Him thanks to this amazing invitation.

Mr. T has shared how the Gospel transformed his life.

“I got to have God. See, I think about what I’ve been through being in this world and whatnot; if I didn’t have God, I wouldn’t be here. I’d be in prison,” he said. “I’d be going off on people and stuff like that with people following me and taking pictures of me to get dirt on me.”

In a 2022 X post, he said, “While some are busy bringing up my past, I’ll be busy looking to my future, thanking God for His grace and His mercy. Because ‘If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature’…I may be wrong, but I think Jesus said, ‘Let he that is among you, that is without sin, cast the first stone.’”

Actor Mr. T is sharing how his faith kept him from giving up when he was diagnosed with cancer.

“I’m diagnosed with cancer, T-cell lymphoma. This is a test of my faith,” he said while appearing on TBN. “So I got into the Bible, and I said, ‘Wow, this is a test.’ I said, ‘I can’t teach what I don’t know. I can’t lead where I don’t go.’ I said, ‘This allows me a testimony.’ And what is a testimony? The first four letters of it is ‘test.’”

He continued, “So, I can’t tell somebody about hanging in there if I get the shaking in my boots when cancer came. Sure, it hit me. Then, I said, ‘No, I got to put my faith in God.’ I said, ‘God, give me the strength to do Your will.’”
