Colorado Buffaloes head football coach Deion Sanders is “loving life” following his quiet, months-long battle with bladder cancer.

At a press conference last Friday, Sanders revealed that he walks a mile after practice, adding that he is “healthy,” “vibrant” and his “old self.”

“I’m loving life right now,” he said, per ESPN. “I’m gonna try my best to live it to the fullest, considering what transpired.”

Earlier this year, Sanders underwent surgery to have his bladder removed, telling fans he was “going through something” in July.

At the end of that month, he and his doctor revealed that “It’s beaten.”

Throughout the process, Sanders relied on his assistant coaches and support staff to oversee the team during his absence.

“They’ve given me tremendous comfort,” Sanders said of his co-workers. “I never had to call 100 times and check on the house, because I felt like the house is going to be OK. That’s why you try your best to hire correct, so you don’t have to check on the house night and day. They did a good job, especially strength and conditioning.”

Now that Sanders is back to full health, he is focused on football. Mainly, he’s focused on who will become the next QB1 as his son, Shedeur, has moved on to the NFL.

According to USA Today, the Buffaloes have “Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter and heralded freshman Julian ‘JuJu’ Lewis.” Returning backup quarterback Ryan Staub has also “impressed Sanders.”

“The cream of the crop is gonna rise,” Sanders said at the press conference. “So it’s not an urgency that we got to name this and name that. Both these guys can play. I mean, I think we could play well with either one of them, but we want to put ourselves in the best position, totally. So it’s still going on, and don’t underestimate Staub and what he brings to the table.”

Sanders, who often speaks about his faith, shared a prayer on social media during the Buffaloes’ training camp.

“Lord, I thank You for the times it was just you and I & I cried out to You with no hesitation because I trust You in every possible manner there is to trust,” the head coach wrote.

Sanders is ready to get into the swing of football season this year as he gets back to full health and puts all of his focus on his team.
