Production has begun on a new faith-based series being created for Prime Video that will follow the story of Joseph from the Old Testament.

“In this iconic Old Testament story, betrayed by jealous brothers, Joseph defies all expectations and rises to incredible power in Egypt, second only to Pharaoh. But when his past catches up with him, he is confronted with the ultimate test,” a logline for the show reads.

The story of Joseph is one of the most consequential in all of the Old Testament as it explains how the Israelites ended up in Egypt, eventually becoming slaves to the Pharaoh – which ultimately set up the triumph of Moses as he liberated the nation. Dallas Jenkins has hinted that this show will likely run for only one season and still be able to encompass the entirety of Joseph’s story.

“This is a story that can be told in eight episodes,” Jenkins said. “We have writers that love THE CHOSEN and want to have their own stamp on it, but also defer to the larger CHOSEN story that we’re all telling. All filmmakers and storytellers that we bring into our fold are going to be people who love the mothership show and have no interest in rewriting the way that we do things.”

Jenkins will serve as a producer on the show, and his studio, 5&2 is creating she show in conjunction with Amazon Prime Video. The project comes as the first of multiple between the two entities after Jenkins signed a major partnership deal with Amazon that includes multiple shows, as well as streaming rights to the first five seasons of THE CHOSEN along with the final two seasons. Jenkins has also announced his plans to create a show telling the entirety of the story of Moses after wrapping up THE CHOSEN.

Meanwhile, JOSEPH OF EGYPT will star Adam Hashmi as Joseph along with Alexander Siddig (Jacob), Babak Tafti (Simeon), Daniel Peera (Reuben), Iris Bahr (Leah), Dakota Shapiro (Ashur), Amir Malaklou (Judah), Shani Atias (Rachel), and Siya Maleki (Levi).

As faith-based content continues to prove its draw in the entertainment industry, it is amazing to see how it has been embraced at Prime Video. Beyond the work the studio has done with Dallas Jenkins, it has also produced HOUSE OF DAVID, which catapulted to the No. 1 show on the platform after its release. Not only has Amazon continued to invest in faith-based content bet it also remains committed to keeping this content accurate, rather than adjusting it to fit our culture. Praise the Lord for the work He is doing through this studio and His plans for the future through shows like JOSEPH OF EGYPT.
