Amazon is set to develop a new Biblical series, JOSEPH OF EGYPT, with THE CHOSEN creator Dallas Jenkins.
Jenkins will executive produce the series through his company, 5&2 Studios. Craig Wright, who’s worked on GREENLEAF and RUSH, will come on board as a writer, Variety reported Tuesday.
The official logline reads, “Betrayed by jealous brothers, Joseph defies all expectations and rises to incredible power in Egypt, second only to Pharaoh. But when his past catches up with him, he is confronted with the ultimate test.”
The Book of Genesis says Joseph was sold into slavery by his twelve brothers. He gets falsely accused of a crime and is jailed as a result but gains favor with the pharaoh by interpreting his dreams. The pharaoh honors him, and Joseph meets his brothers again face-to-face.
The director for the show is not officially set yet. Jenkins originally revealed plans for a Joseph series, as well as a Moses series, in September 2024.
“This is a story that can be told in eight episodes,” Jenkins told Variety of the Joseph series in September. “We have writers that love THE CHOSEN and want to have their own stamp on it, but also defer to the larger CHOSEN story that we’re telling. All filmmakers and storytellers that we bring into our fold are going to be people who love the mothership show and have no interest in rewriting the way that we do things.”

THE CHOSEN series is free to watch on The Chosen App, but Jenkins isn’t promising that JOSEPH will be free.
However, he said, “We always are going to have a heart to make sure that people who can’t afford to pay for it, or particularly in third world countries, that they have access to it.”
At ChosenCon last year, Jenkins revealed that he’ll be making THE CHOSEN BOOK OF MOSES series after he wraps up THE CHOSEN Season 7.
“It’s going to be a three-season show that’s going to cover three of the most consequential moments of the Moses story,” Jenkins said. And “the journey, of course, out of Egypt.”
He said the Joseph series will cover “some of the backstory of Jacob and Rachel and Leah. We’re going to get into the birth of the 12 brothers, and, of course, the forebears of the 12 tribes of Israel.”
Amazon hasn’t announced a release date for JOSEPH OF EGYPT, but Jenkins said at ChosenCon that it will come out before THE CHOSEN Season 7.
