Joseph’s Story Reminds Danica McKellar to Find Joy in Everything
By Movieguide® Contributor
As Great American Family actress Danica McKellar reads through the Bible, she finds inspiration in Joseph’s story, whose disposition helped him rise “to the top” of success.
“One of the [Old Testament] stories that stuck with me most is from Genesis, and that’s Joseph’s story,” McKellar said on Great American Community. “What really struck me about Joseph’s story is that he says God was with him during these times, when he was sold into slavery and when he was thrown into prison and all this stuff.”
“Wherever Joseph was, he rose to the top because people recognized, well, this guy is kind of special. You know, let’s put him in charge of more things. He was the favorite prisoner. He was the favorite slave, and then he got more power and position because of that,” she continued.
She imagines that Joseph performed all of his tasks joyfully, without complaint.
“It’s like if you had to mop the floors, he’s doing the best job he could do because he was with God. God was with him. He felt it,” THE WONDER YEARS actress said.
“And this idea that no matter what we’re doing, we could do it with true joy if we are connected to our relationship with God is incredible. Doing the dishes, whatever it is. You know, my dad found spirituality, his faith, his relationship with Jesus about 20, 25 years ago, and I remember him telling me about it at the time, and he was actually, he had some kind of difficult times financially,” she explained.
His business had serious debts, and the future did not look good.
“And I remember him sharing with me at the time that he had told his business partners, he’s like, ‘What if we do all the things we still have to do but with joy?’” she said.
She imagines Joseph’s attitude was like her dad’s, as he kept his head up in troubled times and chose to be joyful.
“No matter what he was doing, he rose to the top. And at the end, being in the almost highest position in Egypt. And [he] was able to save so many people from famine. What a beautiful lesson for us all.”
“So, I hope that this has inspired you to truly feel and find the joy in the tiniest of little tasks that we do every day. And then I hope that brings you closer to God as well,” she told viewers.
Movieguide® previously reported on Mckellar’s first venture into the Old Testament:
McKellar… touched on what God has taught her through her recent reading: “It’s interesting going through the Old Testament. There’s all sorts of stuff I didn’t know anything about.”
“I didn’t know anything about people living hundreds and hundreds of years old,” she added. “I have a lot to learn, I’m still figuring it out.”
McKellar concluded the episode: “My goal is not to understand everything, my goal is to read it all. They say your job when reading the bible is not to understand everything that happened but to understand God better. I’m here with an open mind and heart. I’m very intrigued.”
Recently, McKellar supported her fellow GAF actress and friend Candace Cameron Bure for her role in UNSUNG HERO, a movie about for King + Country’s Smallbone family.
“What a night! Words can’t describe how blown away and proud I am of my good friend and @greatamericanfamily sister @candacecbure for producing the incredible @unsungheromovie!” McKellar said with photos of herself at an UNSUNG HERO event Wednesday. “What an incredible true story of @forkingandcountry ‘s family’s humble beginnings in this country 30 years ago, and the power of community and faith in God that saw them through impossibly challenging times. ‘Family isn’t in the way. Family is the way.’ 🤗🙏💕 LOVED this movie!”
She included photos of herself with Bure and other friends, including Movieguide® founder Dr. Ted Baehr and actresses Melissa Joan Hart, Jen Lilley and Laura Osnes.
Bure complimented McKellar in an April 18 Digital Journal interview: “Bure also couldn’t say enough great things about actress Danica McKellar…’Danica is so great and wonderful,’ Bure said.”
