Danica McKellar Reflects on How Truths of the Bible are ‘Engrained in Our Culture’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Actress Danica McKellar recently reflected on her progress as she’s reading through the bible in a year.
McKellar shared her thoughts on King Saul’s disobedience to God and on David and Goliath.
Before McKellar got to David and Goliath she talked about where she is in the first part of 1 Samuel.
She described the book of 1 Samuel as being “very human” and she described King Saul’s justification for disobeying God as something she finds herself doing sometimes.
“What I see in this, the very human trait of justifying and rationalizing behavior, that we know is wrong, but we want it to be right. I know I’ve done that before and then I look back and I’m like, ‘Hmm, I was rationalizing that. I wanted it to be true because it was convenient or safe or attractive or whatever it was, but it wasn’t right,” she said.
Then McKellar gets to the subject of David and Goliath, she shared where she learned that King David is the same David from the fight between David and Goliath.
“I love how many of the stories in the Bible are so engrained in our culture and to see where it all comes from is just really exciting,” she stated.
Movieguide® recently reported on Danica McKellar sharing different ways she meets her Bible reading goal:
Great American Family star Danica McKellar recently revealed a new way she’s approaching her goal of reading through the Bible in a year.
In a new episode of FAITH BITS on Great American Community, McKellar shared that she’s listening through the Bible.
“It’s very enriching and motivating,” McKellar states. “I love the combination. Oftentimes, I’ll go back and read what I’ve listened to.”
McKellar said that listening to God’s word helps her stay on track despite some days where she is unsure if she will have time to read.
“I know I will always have time to listen to it,” she explained.
McKellar talks about her One Step Closer bible that she received from Candace Cameron Bure being her main bible. But she touches on having a travel bible to fit in her luggage.
“Reading the bible in a year is very do-able. It’s only about 10-15 minutes of reading per day,” McKellar adds.
McKellar also touched on what God has taught her through her recent reading: “It’s interesting going through the Old Testament. There’s all sorts of stuff I didn’t know anything about.”
“I didn’t know anything about people living hundreds and hundreds of years old,” she added. “I have a lot to learn, I’m still figuring it out.”
McKellar concluded the episode: “My goal is not to understand everything, my goal is to read it all. They say your job when reading the bible is not to understand everything that happened but to understand God better. I’m here with an open mind and heart. I’m very intrigued.”
