In episode one of season 3, Belly is heading to college in the fall, in a change of setting for the show from Cousins’ Beach in the summer. After the romantic events of the previous seasons, Belly truly believes she has found her soulmate, Jeremiah (her ex’s Conrad’s brother), following him to Finch. While the school is still a good fit for her academically, her main drive is to go to the same school as her boyfriend. After a romantic hug, her boyfriend and family help her move into the school. In a moment alone, Belly’s mom encourages her to make the most of discovering herself, meeting new people and trying new things in college.

Fast forward to the end of the school year, Belly and Jeremiah are in bed, cuddling (implying post-sex) with her boyfriend, she seems genuinely happy. She completely believes that their relationship is perfect, and he’s the one. They talk about next year when he will graduate and the future together.

Belly’s mom is preparing a dedication for Suzanna, her now-deceased best friend, with whom they all spent summers at Cousin’s Beach. She has asked Conrad and Jeremiah to make a joint speech for the upcoming ceremony.

Isabel gets an opportunity for a study abroad program in Paris after someone drops out. A dream come true, but she hesitates as Jeremiah just found out that he cannot graduate due to his major changing credit requirements and will have to stay an extra semester. Devastated, his only consolation is that he will be able to spend more time with Belly.

Conrad will be starting a new job at the summer clinic, a dream opportunity for him. However, he will have to miss his mom’s ceremony, which will be a great disappointment to him.

Finals Freakout Weekend is a Greek event on the Saturday before finals. At this event, Belly confesses to Taylor that she hasn’t decided on Paris yet after Jeremiah’s bad news. Taylor encourages her not to miss the opportunity.

Jeremiah’s dad is very upset about having to pay another semester and demands that he pay him back the $20k tuition, unfairly saying Conrad wouldn’t be in this position. Jeremiah is upset and tells Conrad he can’t do the speech, as he is too upset with his father for being so unfair. Conrad hasn’t told him about his new job, feeling bad about Jeremiah’s bad luck.

Outside a restaurant, Belly tells Steven about the Paris program. When he asks why she would even consider not doing it because of Jeremiah, she confesses that there are little things with Jeremiah that do get to her – like his seasonal allergies and wishing he didn’t smoke so much weed. But she stands firm that none of that truly matters to her as they’ve gone through “real stuff” together. He gives her some brotherly advice that stings but is true.
