Faith is “everything” to the St. Louis Cardinals’ top prospect JJ Wetherholt.

“I grew up from a family background of faith but really came to new the Lord at school in West Virginia,” he told CBN Sports. “So it’s became everything to me. And you know, He’s got a plan, and this was His plan for me, so I’m just super grateful.”

According to CBN Sports, the athlete, who was drafted in 2024, will be part of the Cardinals’ opening day roster.

Wetherholt, who describes himself as a “follower of Christ” in his Instagram bio, also speaks about his faith on social media.

In an Instagram post at the beginning of the year, he wrote, “A year full of blessings,” before quoting Romans 12:1: “And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice-the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.”

Fans in the comment section praised Wetherholt for his openness about his faith. “You’ve inspired a whole generation,” one person said. Another added, “I pray you make the Cardinals 40nman roster this season!”

Last March, he said, “God’s business I’m minding,” alongside a photo of him swinging his bat.

Wetherholt is yet another young athlete using his platform to point fans to God.

Savannah Bananas star RobertAnthony Cruz — a.k.a Coach RAC — regularly shares his faith on and off the field.

The former Washington Nationals prospect helped host a worship night last summer outside Grayson Stadium, where the Bananas play, Sports Spectrum reported.

“The event drew hundreds of people of all ages to hear music and testimonies from some of the players, as well as a short message from Cruz,” the outlet said.

“There’s nothing that crazy happening here — we are just broken people who find great joy and peace and rest knowing that our lives are not about us,” Cruz said of his and his teammates’ open declarations of faith. “The world doesn’t revolve around us. Speaking for myself, the more the spotlight is put on me, the more I realize the spotlight is meant to be put on the Giver of all things.”

San Fransisco Giants pitcher Patrick Bailey doesn’t let baseball become an idol, instead focusing on letting God use him.

“We’ve got 40,000 people watching us every night night, and there’s some good, and there’s some bad,” he told Sports Spectrum. “And it’s definitely very easy to kind of fall into that trap of seeing my self-worth in what I do. And again, obviously, like baseball is a gift, and it’s a platform that I can serve Jesus and serve others on, but it can very quickly become that idol that I think it’s just so easy to get to.”

We applaud these baseball players who are willing to talk about the difference God makes in their lives. Hopefully their fans will be inspired to share Christ’s love with others as well.
