PANDORUM

"Boring Attempt at Horror"

Watch:

What You Need To Know:

PANDORUM is a tedious story of two astronauts, Bower and Payton, who wake up from a hypersleep only to discover their ship is running down and they are overrun by goblin like monsters intent on killing them. Pandorum refers to a mental illness brought on by deep space travel and hypersleep. After much fighting and very loud sound effects, Bower discovers that Payton is not really Payton and was actually the cause of the ship’s journey going so very wrong. An unknown astronaut turns out to be a younger version of Payton (from when he left Earth) and eventually the two Paytons merge into one.

PANDORUM moves very slow, with much walking down dark ship corridors and monsters jumping out at various times. The wooden characters have no understanding of who they are or what they want. An insane crewmember says that God’s Creation on Earth is gone and that God died with it, but his insanity is destroyed. PANDORUM is tedious and not very interesting. With excessive gore and a tedious story, there is very little to commend about PANDORUM, except for its moral worldview which ends on a positive note.

Content:

(BB, C, Ab, H, LLL, VVV, N, M) Strong moral worldview where group of astronauts tries to stop evil madman and ghoulish monsters from destroying humanity, plus one character concludes that God is dead, but he has gone insane; 41 obscenities and 11 profanities; extreme violence as ghoulish monsters bite, eat, and stab humans, much fighting, man impaled; no sexual content; men in briefs, upper male nudity; no alcohol use; smoking or illegal drugs; and, betrayal and insanity.

More Detail:

PANDORUM is a tedious story about two astronauts, Bower and Payton, who wake up from a hypersleep only to discover their ship is running down, and they are overrun by goblin like monsters intent on killing them.

Pandorum refers to a mental illness brought on by deep space travel and hypersleep.

The two astronauts split up. Bower travels to the bowels of the ship to reset the core, which will restore power to the ship. Payton stays behind to work the radio and guide him along the paths.

Bower discovers other crewmembers who have been awake for many years and struggle to survive against the man-eating monsters that infest the ship. Payton encounters another astronaut, but it becomes a battle of wills as the unknown astronaut accuses Payton of having Pandorum and killing the crew.

After much fighting and very loud sound effects, Bower discovers Payton is not really Payton and was actually the cause of the ship’s journey going so very wrong. The unknown astronaut is really a younger version of Payton (from when he left Earth), and eventually the two Paytons merge into one.

PANDORUM is very slow moving with much walking down dark ship corridors and monsters jumping out at various times. The characters are mostly wooden with no understanding of who they are or what they want. The story has many plot holes and ultimately doesn’t answer some of the questions raised.

There is much violence with the ghoulish monsters attacking, biting and eating human flesh. The most striking element of the movie is a nightmarish like sequence when one of the characters must walk among sleeping monsters.

The ship contains the last remnants of humans heading for an Earth-like planet. When news that Earth has been destroyed reaches them, it causes one of their crewmembers to experience Pandorum and go insane, killing the leaders. The insane crewmember says that God’s creation of Earth is gone and that God died with it, but his insanity is destroyed in the end.

PANDORUM is tedious, slow moving, and not very interesting. Combined with the gruesome gore, it’s not a movie with much to offer, except for its moral worldview, which ends on a positive note.
