THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE’s universe is expanding. Nintendo icon Fox McCloud will join Mario and his gang in the upcoming flick.
Fox was first introduced to the Super Mario world in 1993 in the original “action-adventure game ‘Star Fox’ on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and later in ‘Star Fox 64,’ ‘Star Fox Adventures,’ ‘Star Fox: Assault,’ ‘Star Fox: Command’ and most recently 2017’s ‘Star Fox 2,'” Variety reported.
Glen Powell will voice the character, which he announced in an Instagram video last week. He joins an already stacked cast of A-list stars including Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad.

THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE hits theaters on Wednesday.
“Mario and Luigi, the twin plumbers, apply their ‘let’s-a-go’ attitude to solve everyday problems all over their new home of the Mushroom Kingdom,” a synopsis reads.
“As they support Princess Peach, and work to reform a miniaturised imprisoned Bowser, they meet a new companion – Yoshi,” the summary continues. “Princess Peach’s birthday party sparks a galactic adventure, sending the brothers into space to stop Bowser Jr.’s wicked ambitions and save Rosalina. The addition of the beloved characters Rosalina and Bowser Jr. adds extra spice of big action, comedy, and some shocking revelations to the adventure!”
Another Smash Bros. character will also appear in THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE: Pikmin.
“It really stems back to 20 years ago when we did a presentation where it starts off with, there’s a Pikmin next to you,” said Nintendo’s VIP, Shigeru Miyamoto. “In Nintendo there’s sort of like an unwritten rule. Mario needs to stay in the Mario universe, or Splatoon needs to stay in Splatoon, and we don’t use different characters in the same place. But Pikmin has this kind of unwritten rule where they’re okay to appear with other characters.”
Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic returned to direct the sequel to 2023’s THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE. Screenwriter Matthew Fogel and composer Brian Tyler also returned to work on the second installment.
The sequel is expected to build on the success of its predecessor, which grossed over $1.3 billion at the global box office in 2023, thanks to its family-friendly themes. Movieguide® gave it a Teddy Bear Award® in 2024, praising its “strong moral, redemptive worldview with good conquering evil.”
Part of Movieguide®’s review reads:
THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE (2023) has a strong moral message about brotherhood, sacrifice, and working together to overcome evil. The movie has breathtaking animation that honors its iconic source material while breathing new life into the large cast of characters from both Mario video games and other Nintendo games of the same universe. For Mario and Luigi, love for one another helps them overcome their deepest fears and stand up against Bowser and his army of Koopas, Goombas, and Piranha Plants. Due to some intense animated action/violence, Movieguide® advises caution for younger children.
Catch Mario, Luigi, Fox McCloud and the rest of the gang in theaters on April 1.
