Production is officially underway on SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 4!
“Ready 4 Action 🎬” director Jeff Fowler posted on Instagram, along with a photo of himself holding popular character Amy Rose’s hammer. “#SonicMovie4 now filming. In Theaters Worldwide March 2027.”

It was revealed earlier this year that Kristen Bell will voice Amy, joining a cast that includes Ben Schwartz (Sonic), Idris Elba (Knuckles), Jim Carrey (Doctor Eggman), James Marsden (Tom Wachowski) and Tika Sumpter (Maddie Wachowski).
SONIC crew members have teased Amy’s debut in the franchise, with SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3 writer Pat Casey saying, “We did talk long and hard about including [Amy] in movie three, actually, before ultimately, we all sort of decided that there just wasn’t quite enough room to do her justice and Shadow justice. We didn’t wanna crowd the picture.”
“I think we have a great plan for what’s gonna really make her work as a film character,” he continued.
Writer Josh Miller added, “You don’t want her to be there as a fourth wall running around with the trio. We just want to see her be cool. She’s kind of the big female character of the franchise.”
Schwartz has also teased some plot details for the fourth movie, telling Variety in 2024, “The exact things we tease at the end of this film [SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3] is the exact thing I hope we would do for the fourth.”
“There is a beautiful storyline that can be used, and it takes our movie in a whole different place,” the actor continued. “That’s what makes these exciting. Every one of these movies almost feels like a different genre. The first one’s kind of a buddy comedy. The second one’s kind of like an adventure, INDIANA JONES movie. This one brings the darkness in Shadow [voiced by Keanu Reeves], and the next one can have a totally different vibe. It’s just heaven. Also we can get incredible people to play new characters and stuff like that, which is very exciting.”
The SONIC movies have been reviewed favorably by Movieguide®, commending them for their “strong moral worldview that stresses friendship, protecting others and going out on a limb to help a friend in need.”
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 4 premieres March 19, 2027.
