Winnie-the-Pooh makes his return to the big screen with the upcoming animated movie WINNIE-THE-POOH IN THE CITY.

“A.A. Milne’s stories are timeless tales of friendship, warm humor and gentle wisdom that speak to every generation,” producer Brigham Taylor said in a press release. “It’s an honor and delight to be involved with this team in bringing a new story of Winnie-the-Pooh and friends to a new era.”

WINNIE-THE-POOH IN THE CITY follows the beloved bear and his Hundred Acre Woods pals as they “leave their display at the New York Public Library to join a bright but lonely young girl on a heartwarming adventure through New York City during the holidays,” per the press release.

It continues, “Together, they help her discover that growing up doesn’t mean letting go of the untamed spirit and wonder of childhood, but finding the courage to share it with the world.”

Jim Cummings, who has voiced both Pooh and Tigger over the years, will reprise his voice acting roles, and called WINNIE-THE-POOH IN THE CITY “incredible — you are going to love it!”

Winnie-the-Pooh is currently celebrating his 100th birthday, with plenty of fun things planned by Disney, from tie-in merchandise and pop-up events to “digital storytelling, experiential moments, creator collaborations and even modern reimaginings of classic ‘Pooh-isms,’” per Parade.

“Winnie the Pooh has inspired generations with his warmth, imagination, and gentle outlook on life,” Amanda Dhalluin, VP of Global Brand Commercialization at Disney Consumer Products, told Parade. “This milestone year brings his timeless charm to fans in fresh new ways through meaningful products and creative collaborations.”

“Disney Legend” Mark Henn, an animator who has worked on projects featuring Pooh and his friends, spoke to Disney Parks Blog about the enduring popularity of the character, pointing to his “real sincere heart.”

“For me as an animator and as an actor, [that] is something I’ve always gravitated to in the characters I’ve enjoyed animating,” he continued.

Kevin M. Kern, Senior Manager of Research for the Walt Disney Archives, added, “I think one of the great things about the character is that he’s so steeped in wisdom that he himself does not always realize he’s giving, and that’s so timeless.”

Fans are happy that Pooh’s timeless message of kindness will be coming back to theaters. WINNIE-THE-POOH IN THE CITY premieres December 2027.
